Dear fellow Toolbox users and experts,

There are three things that I would love to be able to do that I can't
figure out. They may or may not be possible. Perhaps you can help me?

1. I would like to copy multiple records at a time from one database
to another.

2. I would like to be able to exclude the \se field AND its
accompanying \de field from output. If I just exclude the \se then the
\de fields under it just get appended to the \de under the \lx.

3. I have been using fb: and fi: to format text as bold or italic. fv:
and fr: have also been used for this in the past. I preferred to use
fb: and fi:, as I assumed that these would affect only the boldness or
italicness of the text without the other baggage of the vernacular or
regional language encoding (ie. font size). However, the fb: and fi:
codes do seem to have a set font size. I want the font size in the
paragraph style (\et = 10 pt, \de= 11 pt) to prevail. I would like to
know how to set this, either in Toolbox or in MS Word, which I am
using for output.

I thank you very much for any assistance you can offer.

Sincerely,
Sarah Braun Hamilton

Dar Sarah Braun Hamilton,

You can use other tools than toolbox for this, for example "compare
it" http://www.grigsoft.com/.

Within toolbox, I would:
- select the entries (using a filter and maybe a special field as a 'tag')
- export the entries to a standard format database
- import this database into the other database

Both databases have to be of the same type, or you will have to
re-arrange manually the entries you want to copy.

For that, I would use an external program, such as a good text editor,
and regular expressions, for this. A cc table would do the same job,
maybe somebody in this list can make a proposal.

I have not tested this, but it seems odd to me -- I would expect only
the one feature to change.

In MS Word, you can change the STYLES for the different fields; there
should be one style for the fi: and fb: markings as well. Change the
definition of these styles and save the document model (*.dot).
In the worst case you could define a macro in MS Word, searching for
all occurrences of these markings and replacing them with the right
formatting.

Hope this hints help, if not, feel free to ask me about more details
(maybe better off-list).

Best,

Dear Sarah,

1. I don't have any better answer than Sebastian, but a few more
details -- filter out the set, export the filtered data (middle
option) as Standard Format -- if you choose Automatically Open
Exported File, it will open it again immediately and you don't have to
hassle with the Import dialog box. Then do Database, Merge to merge to
unite the two files.

2. That sure would be nice. I can help you with a CC table if you
haven't already done something else.

3. In Word, I've noticed that the font_bold, etc, sometimes seem to
have a size and/or font name attached. Right Click on the style name
to bring up the menu, and choose Modify. Then click on Format, Font.
You can Select and Delete the file name and size, leaving just the
Bold specified. Click OK. Be sure you click on Add to Template. That
should do it.
