As a proud new father I have several mugs with "Daddy" and hands prints
etc, and they are all really cute.

However, I would like to build a mug that somehow has a display in it.
Would have to think carefully how to get a flat display into a round
(maybe square would be easier) mug. I assume it world have to go in
after the mug was fired :-) The batteries could be recharged and the
images uploaded over USB. Or the images uploaded by some wireless means,
and the batteries recharged by splashpower :-)

I could then upload all the images I wanted to my mug which would
display them throughout the day.

If firebox already sold these, I'd have one already :-)

Cheers,
Chris

How about a 3-inch plastic display from http://www.plasticlogic.com,
as invented by Cambridge Display Technology http://www.cdtltd.co.uk/

Have you seen the Dr Who mugs that make noises like a Dalek? The
electronics is under the cup sealed in epoxy resin.

Rich

Could the display be powered by the heat from the liquid in the mug?
Thus giving you an excuse to keep the Scottish coffees* flowing!

* I don't actually know what a Scottish coffee would involve, it would
have to be different from an Irish one. Maybe some Drambuie. Mmm
mmm.... It's fine, it's after midday.

We tried a project a couple of years ago to power and ARM MCU off of the
heat from a Pentium. We used a Stirling engine, and it damn near worked
before we run out of time. Don't think there would be enough energy to
power and display though, unless you serve your drinks at 2,500^C ;-)

Scottish coffee could be a regular coffee served with some Short Bread?

Cheers,
Chris

Perhaps a job for the e-ink style technology (or some other similar
types) which i believe only consume power when changing.

One can buy (if one has enough money) a dev kit for an e-ink display.

I didn't realise this but plastic logic seem to have some link with the
e-ink technology. I should get on to the person I met (once) and see if
I can blag some samples from them...
