Enjoy!
http://weblogs.asp.net/alecwhittington/archive/2010/03/18/s-arp-architecture-1-5-beta-1-released.aspx

BTW - this is a surprise to Billy. He committed his bits less than 3 hours ago. So surprise!

Please read the blog post, not many details on how to use the new features. I will be sending those out on the blog in a few days.

Cheers,
Alec Whittington

Awesome! I'm looking forward to sinking my teeth into it and getting a
taste of the new hotness! :) Great work!

Sadly, I've downloaded it and put the DLL and the ZIP files into the
correct places, but when I try to create a test site I get loads of
error messages complaning about <file>.tt not found in the template.
and then aborts without completing properly.

Any ideas?

Can you be a little more descriptive on the errors? I've tested this locally without issue, using the same .zip as in the downloads section. If you can screenshot it, that would be even better.

Also, what OS are you running?

Cheers,
Alec Whittington

I have seveal warning in the ErrorList window that disappear.

Then I get a message box with the error: "The file
DomainObjectFormViewModel.tt could not be found within the project
template"
Pressing OK gets: "The file DomainObjectManagementServiceTemplate.tt
"....
Then IDomainObjectManageMentServiceTemplate.tt,
IDomainObjectRepositoryTemplate,
CreateGetDomainObectSummariesTemplate,
DomainObjectMgmtServiceTestsTemplate

Then it goes a way and then comes back with "'A problem was
encountered creating the sub project 'CrudScaffoldingForEnterpriseApp'
Error HRESULT_FAIL .... " and the an exception message box. The create
stops with nothing in the solution explorer window. The solution file
is not created but the component project files are there.

I'm using VS 2008 and on an old XP pro box (I know, I know, but it's
going to have to last a couple of months more before it gets
replaced).

I am definitely not getting that error. This evening I will install the template on my XP VM and try it. Are you getting the template from the downloads or from the source?

I downloaded the zip file and placed them in the correct (I checked)
places.

I have not tried to down load and build the template.

Well I am at a loss as to why it is happening for you. I will try it on the XP VM tonight. So far I have installed it on Windows 7 (x64) and Vista (x86)

BTW, I can confirm that if I uses the exact same binaries on my laptop
which runs Vista then it all works fine.

Hi folks,

forgive me if I'm being dumb, but the download zip for the 1.5 beta
seems to contain only the VisualStudioTemplate folder (check the
download sizes), what happened to the new versions of everything else?

Looking forward to playing ...

Robin.

The template contains ALL files needed. In this case, the folder you are looking for is here: SharpArchApplicationTemplate.zip\SolutionItemsContainer\Solution Items

All of the updated assemblies have been added to there.

DOH!

Guess I have should have actually tried it before posting!

But it seems the old download included the entire source package as
well, whereas the new one doesn't, hence the difference in download
size, and my confusion.

Well, I'll let you know how it goes ... and thx ...

It seems to be working so far on my preliminary testing with VS 2010,
I do get the following errors. They don't prevent me from running
anything but are odd none the less:

Error 1 Compiling transformation: Metadata file 'Inflector.Net.dll'
could not be found c:\users\eric\documents\visual studio 2010\Projects
\Test\Test\CrudScaffoldingForEnterpriseApp
\ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt 1 1
Error 2 Compiling transformation: Metadata file 'SharpArch.Core.dll'
could not be found c:\users\eric\documents\visual studio 2010\Projects
\Test\Test\CrudScaffoldingForEnterpriseApp
\ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt 1 1

I checked the references and they appear to be valid, and those dll's
are in the lib folder accordingly...

This release is 2008 only. If 2010 works, bonus, if not it will be covered in the next release.

I've been working on some basic examples with this release but I'm
finding a weird behavior with ModelState.IsValid. When I create a
simple Entity (FirstName, LastName; both with [NotNull,NotEmpty]) and
use CRUD. Everything works fine and all tests pass. But when I try to
create using the web form but without filling any fields, the form
submits and ModelState.IsValid is true when it shouldn't. Also, the
SQL generated script isn't applying NHibernateValidator constraints,
this I know how to fix but just wanted to point it out.

Felipe,
Could you please log the first part as an issue on the GitHub repository? On the second part, which SQL script are you referring to? We have never read the constraints and applied them to the SQL model. The constraints come from the mapping files and is actually one of the reasons I like to write my own mapping files as opposed to using the Auto-mapping (sorry james).

Cheers,
Alec Whittington

Will do later today when I get home.

About the SQL, I've been reading about how to apply
NHibernateValidator constraints to the SQL model where applicable. I'm
pretty sure you can use this feature with AutoMapping. But i'm too
busy at work to check this today. Will do soon enough.

Cheers,

For what it’s worth, I was able to use the 1.5 beta wizard on my XP
Pro box with almost no problems at all.
- WinXP Pro SP3
- VS.Net 2008 Pro SP1
- .Net 3.5 SP1
- T4 Toolbox 9.7.25.1
- Tangible T4 Editor for VS2008 version 1.0

When I first create a new SharpArch solution there are two duplicate
warnings in my error list:
The custom tool 'TextTemplatingFileGenerator' failed while processing
the file 'ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt'.

Double clicking the first warning I’m prompted with “The last attempt
to run the custom tool ‘TextTemplatingFileGenerator’ on file
‘ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt’ failed. Would you like to re-run the
custom tool?”. After clicking Yes the warning disappears and in the
CrudScaffolding project a blank “ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.txt" file
is created. Double clicking the second warning causes the same thing
to happen, but the blank file is created in the
CrudScaffoldingForEnterpriseApp project.

I successfully used the default domain object definitions in the
ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt file of the
CrudScaffoldingForEnterpriseApp, uncommenting the “generator.Run()”
line and saving the file. The code generation runs as expected with
new files in the ApplicationServices, Core, Data, Web, Db, and Tests
projects. I couldn’t compile the solution however, because the
ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt file defines a Manager property of type
Employee, but doesn’t define an Employee type.

I also took a ScaffoldingGeneratorCommand.tt file from an old test
project of mine which multiple entities, aggregates and validator
attributes. I didn’t have any problems when I saved the file to run
the generator. However I did get some compilation errors. One was
having multiple ActionConfirmation classes in ActionConfirmation.cs.
This is probably because my tt file contained multiple calls to
generator.Run() as it created multiple entities. The rest were
problems with some files not having the correct using statements
pointing to the correct namespaces (ex not including “using
System.Collections.Generic” when an entity is defined with a IList<T>
property).

Regards
Dan

Alec, are then any examples showing how the new more CQS style CRUD is organized?

Thanks,
Chris

BTW - this is a surprise to Billy. He committed his bits less than 3 hours ago. So surprise!

Please read the blog post, not many details on how to use the new features. I will be sending those out on the blog in a few days.

Cheers,
Alec Whittington
