Senior Software Engineer -- PHP Developer, Social Web (Palo Alto)

A well-funded privately held company with a unique social web2.0
platform is looking for a stellar PHP developer with expertise in many
programming languages, open source frameworks, and databases.

This position will be focused on new projects for the company: this is
your chance to really own a web product, from the ground up. You
should be entrepreneurial minded, and prepared to provide ideas,
feedback, opinions, and most important, develop stellar products.

    * You love technology. Surfing the web isn't just fun, it's part
of you. You read blogs, and you might even have your own. You've got
strong opinions about the iPhone UI. AJAX, folksonomy, and Flex don't
sound like rock bands you've never heard of.

Persistence and Patience.
    * You work hard, you play hard. You set high standards, and you
exceed them. You have a life, but you still check your email before
you go to bed & when you wakeup.

Responsibilities:

Next Generation Development: Design and develop social web
applications using PHP, HTML, JavaScript, and MySQL. Work closely with
product management and Q/A to deliver exceptional products in a highly
competitive space. Leverage existing open source frameworks and help
evaluate existing platforms to determine the best foundation for new
product development. Work with UI designer on visual aspects of our
applications. Document functional and module designs.

Performance Profiling and Tuning: Quantitatively measure the
performance characteristics of our software, with a focus on
scalability and stability. Discover methods for improving performance
and help define methodologies for ensuring we deliver consistently
well-performing code.

Qualifications:

    * Strong programming experience using PHP and MySQL
    * Experience in software development in LAMP environment
    * 3+ years of experience at a consumer-web company developing high
traffic sites.
    * Experience developing Facebook or OpenSocial applications is a
BIG plus
    * Practical knowledge of JavaScript and XML
    * Scalability/performance experience is a plus
    * Experience with a variety of back-end and front-end open source
frameworks and can articulate what you like and dislike about them.
    * Experienced AJAX development, and can argue passionately about
when to (and when not to) use it.
    * Used Agile methodologies and rapid prototyping
    * Bachelor's degree in C.S. or related field.
