Sigh, I washed the stinky bike clothes from John's last ride, and missed seeing his favorite SFR wool cap in the pile. In case you are wondering, they will indeed felt when washed in warm water. The end result is, John is unhappy, and I'm looking to replace his cap.
So, if anyone purchased a L/XL wool SFR cap (his was blue), and found it a little too large to wear, I'm in the market for a replacement cap.

Thanks,
Kimber

What Darell knows about felting:

As Kimber found the hard way, these caps are NOT made of “washable wool.” We’re all quite used to washable wool these days – wool that is treated to remove most of the little barbs that cause wool to felt (what most call shrink).

The good news is that I used the felting process to my advantage to purposefully make my large, bulky cap fit my misshapen head perfectly. The bad news is that it doesn’t take much to *seriously* felt them too small. And I’ll add that the temp of the water has almost nothing to do with the felting process. It is all about being wet (and lubricated with soap helps a lot!) and agitated. Cold water wash works just as well to “shrink” them.

I don't have any wool caps left, but I do still have a few wicking and
cotton caps in L/XL sizes...

My experience was similar. I had a small/med that was too bulky and after washing (as a wool product) it fits very nicely.

Uh oh...

I bought a small/med wool hat. I usually always get xlarge in standard
hats, but this felt perfect when I tried it on at the populaire. It
still fits great and is super comfortable.

I guess this means I should never wash it...

I hereby apologize in advance for any nasal discomfort this might cause.
