September and go to hollister? i've never been there and would like to
check it out. Or a camping trip somewhere.

Hmm, Hollister...would give me an excuse to try out my new gears. Hopefully
I will have broken them in by then. Would be nice to meet everyone as well
8-)

Yeah that sounds good, but which trail are we talking about? My stock LX
may not be able to do it...

Hollister isnt very hard, unless you want it to be. A lot of it is just
dirt roads, some areas you can test things out on, some rocky trails, again,
not very hard. I would imagine for most of it, stock would be ok. Its just
a nice place to go putzing around with friends and trying out new things you
have done to your truck. My friend took his 100 series there and it was all
stock. It is what you make of it.

I am about 45 min drive from there. Juan lives in Gilroy area.
Better do it soon before rain come. Too much mud in Hollister area if
it rain.

Where are you going to take it? I'd like to do the Advanced test but as
I'm new to the country I'm not sure which club I should go to. I live in
Foster City

Hamtest...thats something I would like to do, but I am still in the process
of reading up on all of it. How hard is the test, and do you have to get a
radio right away? That's still something im mulling over as well. Too many
things to research/buy and not enough time or money for them all at once.

The 'technician' test is not very hard, but it all depends how much time
you put on it. My wife got it.

You do not have to buy a radio. The only expense is a 14USD fee for the
exam and this will give you a FCC license valid for 10 years.

Guess once I get things situated and can study up some, I will take that
class. I think by that time everyone on mud and here will have had their
license and will some insight on good radios and antenna setups.

Went to the transmission shop today...
Truck almost ready, 5.29s are in, new rotors/pads front and rear, new
bearings throughout, new knuckle studs, axle seals, blah blah blah etc.
Should be finalized and test driven tomorrow with me picking it up around
1pm or so. It's been about 3 weeks since I have driven my truck and I
sorely miss it. Everytime I am over at the shop, someone comes in and
cannot believe that my truck is a Lexus with the ARB bumper, 4x4 labs rear
bumper, winch, 35s(315s) sitting next to lift, they all ask, did that come
from the factory that way. I chuckle and say almost, then explain what I
have added and done to it. My friend, who owns the shop and who is doing
the work, says during this whole project that he is impressed by how well
thought out the drive train is on it. The little things like the extra
seals in the rear axle to how the entire front end is designed. He says
it's really overbuilt and that he doesn't see this on the fullsize pickup
trucks he normally gets in the shop. As he was looking at some of the
bearings and other pieces that were being replaced, he said some of these
look brand new still. Some of the grease was actually brand new looking
inside as well. Guess Mr. T (Araco) made/designed one helluva truck when he
came up with the 80 series. Well, I shall have pleasant dreams of driving
my truck tomorrow. And with the finalization of this project, the savings
begins for metaltech sliders and slee 4 or 6 inch lift.

I just caught wind of this from SF80's lift thread (thanks). This
sounds like a great plan. Unfortunatly, I'll be camping out in Tahoe
that weekend. If plans change I'm in. Have a great time out there!

I will try to be there. Discovered that my rear brakes are getting kind of
hot. Taking truck to friends shop after work today. I don't think its
anything major, but he wants to take a look at it. I am really looking
forward to trying out my new stuff. Of course, I still don't have an air
compressor, so I am either going to have to wheel fully aired up or be a air
compressor bum and borrow some air from someone else lol.

Hollister has free compresed air at the ranger's. No need for
compressors or tanks.

I had done this when I had installed my OME lift. But, I may go and make
sure it is setup right. It was setup when I had 285 revos and not 315
toyos, but im not sure that would make a difference. I just got back from
the shop, we went and drove around a bit. The shop guy got hard on the
brakes multiple times. When we got back to the shop, I pointed out what I
thought was hot, he said of course that is, you are touching the rotor.
Well, not the rotor itself but the hub part of the rotor where the studs are
for the wheels. He said it will get warm and under heavy use, hot. Maybe I
am just being over paranoid since everything is new. I never did check it
before, so it could have very well been hot before. Did find out that my
rear E locker isn't engaging. Just blinks away, front locks right up.
Going to go find a nice gravel road and do some figure 8s and see if I cant
get it to lock in. If not, he said bring it back in next week. Also been
smelling something weird, but I think it might just be all the new
belts, hoses, maybe a little grease or something on exhaust cooking off
still. Probably me being paranoid still, but something to keep an eye on.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Jon.

there, but then again, I went there with my FJ60 and that was many moons

Being that I am leaving from Fremont, I might run into you guys on the way

If you think it's a big enough of a deal, invest in one of those laser
temperature guns, and check the difference between the 4 rotors. After
some driving, they should all be pretty consistent (well, the fronts a
little hotter than the rears.)

I actually have one of those already. Didn’t even think to use that. I
will try that out though. Thanks for the idea.

On my rear E locker issue, I went and a nice open dirt/gravel road that I
could do circles and figure 8s on and kept cycling the front and rear
lockers. They both fully function now. I think that they might have just
gotten a little sticky from sitting for a long time. So, that’s a nice load
off the mind. They lock up fairly quickly too, maybe 3-5 seconds, but maybe
that’s since I was on gravel/dirt surface.

I had an issue with my E locker also. I tried to drive on gravel an such but didn't work. What I did next seem to have helped, I removed the sensor and cleaned it real good with solvent then I lubed it and installed it back on the truck. This cured my problem. I tried it yesterday and it works like a charm.

By the way I seen a well built rig last Friday in Sunnyvale around lunch time. Any idea who it was? This rig had me drooling with envy!
