I, too, raise my chocolate shake to the heavens and pay homage to a man who was
one of the three most influential in my life, though he never knew it. Let us
also pay homage to his helpmate, who took care of him, supported him, and was the
model for much of what he wrote. Let us hope that Ginny knows how much both she
and Robert are in our collective hearts as we remember them both. Let us hope
that she knows we owe her a different, but equivalent debt that can never be paid
back, only paid forward, by giving our best to those around us, no matter who
they are, and what they do or don't believe in. As the master has helped us grow
up, mature, and strive to be the best we can be, let us help others in the same
way. While we remember that the world (universe) can be a harsh place, and that
often there is only the ultimate penalty for stupidity/foolishness/ignorance, let
us never hesitate to help others by giving of the best part of ourselves, so that
those that follow might be lifted up by our efforts. We can be the booster that
allows others to reach the escape velocity of the humdrum and mundane, and maybe
one day, cause the master's dreams, as well as our own, to be realized.
And because these are universal sentiments of Heinlein lovers everywhere, I hope
that no one will mind too much, if I cross post this to the other Heinlein
groups, so we might all be reminded of what we all have in common, what we all
love and admire, and forget for a moment, that which divides us.
Best regard to all,
Randy
