yeah that was a pretty ridonkulous course, but i like the silliness of super steep and sticky mud, even tho I endo'd and kind of screwed up my bike.  good times!

nice 6th place by mark sullivan btw.

I heard that there were 500-some-odd steps that you had to climb
wielding your bike in addition to the other crazy aspects of that
course, so bravo to you both for even putting yourself out there in
the craziness!

probably closer to 50 than 500, but I'm sure it felt like 500.

You should give Steve some cred too.  He was out there like a mad man.

How many laps did they do? If it was 50 steps and there were 10 laps,
it could have been 500. Anyway, thanks for the pic- looks like
insanity! And props to Steve too. You are all madmen.

it reminded me of the longest bart stairway ever, but with roots.  and one's bike got progressively heavier as it became mud-laden.  if they have stairs like that in hell, i might just stay there.

and yes, great race by steve.  he defeated me by a nose.

Was an awesome time.  I really enjoyed this course way more than Sierra Point, part of that is probably because I paced myself a little better didn't blow after the 3rd lap at the Cow Palace.  The mud wasn't bad, the stairs didn't actually feel so hard and the downhill was surprisingly ridable despite a few people scrambling down by foot on every lap.  dunno if it was related or not but i got some nasty intestinal discomfort for a couple days after, wondering if it was due to eating a nice mouthful of mud from the cattle yards when i took a drink a couple laps from the end.

I crawled some o dem internets found a few pics of sf2g'ers i recognized:

Yeah, count me as one of the hill-walkers. I need to learn how to
chicken out less. (insert other lame excuses about cleats packed with
mud and not-the-best-brakes)

That being said, the course was super-fantastically fun and notably
soft and yielding to crash on. I approve of this mud-thing and
request more like it.
