It doesn't seem that there is an easy way to have shared ownership of a Google Drive account...but, I think we can allow someone's personal Google Drive account to have a shared folder open for writes.  This is a bit sub-optimal...given the issues Gabriela saw with Google Groups as well, maybe we should find a better home?  Thoughts?  -- justin

Well, her issue is that we disabled posting for non-members so that we didn't have to handle/moderate a ton of spam. That will happen anywhere.

I've already exchanged an email with my Google buddy about the downloads. Not good. :-(

I'll roll a 1.2.1 and put it on both c.g.c and my Drive. We can start to see what that will look like.

If you're looking for a larger move, then suggestions....

Cheers,
-g

Why not get this into ASF? You're using the ASLv2, you depend on APR,
Subversion is about to put out a release that depends on you entirely
for DAV support.

serf started at the ASF, and has been run to ensure a smooth
transition back (ie. all committers already have an ICLA on file).

I just wasn't sure if Justin was positing such a move. My preference
would tend towards remaining on c.g.c, but I certainly wouldn't oppose
such a move back. Let's see what Justin and Lieven think.

I am getting tired of the disjointed aspect of the c.g.c experience.  When real contributors are hitting roadblocks posting, it's a detriment.  Removing key features like downloads doesn't help either.  We are also seeing wiki spam too...  Death by a 1,000 cuts if you will.

So, yah, I would be in favor returning back to Apache...even if it means we need to do votes for releases.  While a small community, I think we can consistently muster quorum for releases.  -- justin

Hi.

it's strange to me that googlecode.com should not sufficient anymore
for our basic needs. What do we need more than an scm, a good issue
tracker, storage for downloads and a way to reach out to interested
developers?

Just moving to another project hosting provider doesn't seem to be a
good investment of our time.

This being said, it has always been my understanding that this project
would eventually move back to Apache, at the right time. This is
probably as good a time as any to start such a move. Most of us are
Apache committers and/or members, Subversion and OpenOffice.org
started to use serf in releases, complaints about our hosting infra...
The question then is if this move can create extra buzz around serf
and attract new interested developers to join and move this project
forward.
I'd certainly hope so.

In the meantime, why not just shove the downloads artifacts into a top-level
/downloads directory in Subversion?

I have heard reports that Google has previously banned projects that posted links within their repos.  -- justin

That's crazy news. What are guys in Google smoking nowadays? :)

Personally I think moving to ASF is only one real option for us: we
depend on APR, several Apache projects depends on serf (Subversion,
OpenOffice), we already follow most of Apache guidelines and etc.
