It's pretty unbelievable how many films these days are sequels, or
remakes of of old films. My film studies book says something like 43
per cent of films these days are sequels/ remakes.. that corresponds
pretty well with what i worked out when I looked at the current
features at my local cinema. does anyone have any thoughts on why that
is?

its rather tempting to make a film on an existing story that you know
already caught on..like xmen...ofcourse ppl wanna see more of the
xmen...yeah he quality of the film sufffers tho...but the fan doesnt
care..some fans sometimes think a remake movie ''rapes'' the old one...its
tempting to see a good movie and want to improve it with nowadays skill sor
differen camera work or something..and usualy ppl enjoy remakes and
sequels..cos they already liked the firt one and then they do go on
expecting to much mostly but sometimes the remake or sequal is an
improvement..i just guess its easier then thinking of an all new idea for a
film...mabye film makers just want an easy buck? or their just super lazy
and lame:P well thank gof for tim burtonXD

original films are more of a financial risk.  There's less risk involved in churning out a film in a proven franchise.  You're more likely to get a return on your investment and isn't that what showbiz is about?

Here's last weekend's top ten:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - sequel
Knocked Up - original
Shrek the Third - sequel
Mr. Brooks - original
Spider-Man 3 - sequel
Waitress - original
Gracie - original
Bug - adaptation of a stage play
28 Weeks Later - sequel
Disturbia - original, but derivative of Hitchcock's Rear Window

5 original works, 5 sequels and adaptations.

Even the first Pirates wasn't an orginal work as it was based on the ride
The first Shrek was an adaptation
The first Spider-Man was a comic adaptation, obviously
At least Bug was an original play
28 Days Later was original

The top ten movies of all time:

Titanic - based on a true story, not a remake but has been done before
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - sequel and an adaptation
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest - sequel and based on the ride
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - adaptation
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - sequel and an adaptation
Stat Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace - prequel
Shrek 2 - sequel to an adaptation
Jurrassic Park - adaptation
Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire - sequel and adaptation
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets - sequel and adaptation

The only original film in the world's top ten is Titanic and even that was based on a true story and has been done before, several times.

There's just more money in sequels, prequels and adaptations, already proven franchises.

true true^^ but ya also have to remember that some film directers that make
a sequal are soemthign can be brilliant and make it so that its better then
then previous film or the adaptation it came from..but mostly its just easy
monye...but then again lots of ideas are floating around..like jurrasic
park..everyone knows dinasaurs..but hey try and make a good movie of of
it..thats also a risk...but then again..some ppl just wanna see a sequal
movie cos they are somuch of a fan..ofcourse ppl will liek
dinosaurs..ofcourse ppl will see spiderman cos they love the comic..but liek
soemtimes they movie can be good but also upset the fans..like xmen3..i mean
come on..xavier dies..cyclops...they lose their powers..but at the end it
suguests thta they get it back cos if magneto gets it back they all get it
back..but still stuff happens that never happend in the comics and such..but
did that matter to the popularitie?

does popularitie also include dvd sell? cos i can imagine ppl seeign
titannic in the movies or lotr or xmen3 and be like whoa..or just kinda
impressed but not sot aht they'd buy the dvd later..who has titanic as dvd
anyways..

cha<3 me getting tooth pulled in a bit, cya

The message is from a member of a group that you probably signed on to at some point, from a movies-related website. I haven’t received any messages in a long time, either.
