Hi Everyone -

This week we're at Cafe Delambre!  Hope to see you there!

Directions to Cafe Delambre:
Line 1, Jonggak Station, exit 12.  Walk up the stairs, and look right, it'll be in front of you.  You can also go out exit 4 and walk straight for about 2 blocks until you see it.

We usually take over the 5th floor from about 230 pm on.

I really think we should edit this to say, "If you're a newcomer, don't try to be on time. We usually don't all actually show up until 3-3:30ish (as newcomers are often the ones who think on-time is important)...

Dongdaemun is the best place to go for yarn.  However it can be overwhelming since it's a market style place and jam packed with vendors.  But if you put in the time you can find great yarn and make good relationships with stores that will give you discounts.  If she can speak korean she can also haggle with them.

HI - just joined your group - live in Sacramento, CA but my grandaughter just moved to Seoul and is an avid knitter - lives on the base - she says the yarn is expensive there and doesn't know other places to get inexpensive yarn.  Is there such a place or do most of you buy yarn online?  Any hints would be great!  Thanks, Doxie Mom

Hi Doxie -

I don't know anything about buying yarn on base, but Korean yarn is pretty cheap.  They aren't the same brands as you're used to finding in the states, but there's a lot of good stuff if you know where to look.  Most of the yarn is in the basement of a one building in the center of Seoul called Dongdaemun Shopping Town.  Her best bet would be to hook up with some of the knitters here and have us take her on a yarn crawl - it can be a bit overwhelming if you've never been there before (Or haven't been there a gazillion times ^_~)

She can reach us here, or on Ravelry, on the Knitters and Crocheters in Korea board.  We have meetings every Sunday, and there is also a group that meets on Yongsan every Wednesday morning (you didn't specify so I'm guessing - there's more than one base), and if she's interested in that I can put her in touch with someone who goes to that group.  We would love to meet her, so tell her not to be shy.

Talk to you soon!

thank you so much! I have forwarded this info on to her - she is only 14 going on 20 and knits up a storm.  She just sold about 55 of her scarves this last weekend and made $700 which she will donate to a missionary cause.  She is quite the lady.  Hopefully she will contact you.  Blessings, Doxie Mom

If she's on base, that means she has an APO address, right? The Loopy Ewe and Yarn Market Online are both great places for buying yarn online. She can also order through Knit Picks.

thank you so much Sio - I am sending her your note and hopefully she can get in touch.  She is only 14 (going on 20) so doesn't drive.  Her father is a diplomat and they just moved to SKorea.  She knits scarves mostly, and sells them and the money she gets (which she just had a sale last weekend -  she made $700 and gives the money to a missionary cause.  Hopefully she can find some resources.....thanks again for your reply!

God Bless........... Cheryl
