This has been a tough problem to resolve ever since I changed my site
to the asp.net platform from html. Again, Windows Live and Yahoo
indexed the new site as expected and Google has failed in ways
unexpected and without a way to control or to resolve the way it has
indexed the site. The degree to which it has failed to recognize the
new site does not stand to a given reason or logic. The list of 2500
products submitted to Google Base sometimes show in results as they
should other times not all. Instead of the page where an item is
listed, the Google search results will instead show a link to the Home
page. Most all of the time there are not any results to be found even
though the webmaster control panel states there are as many as 11,953
URL's listed.
I can submit the sitemap again, or update the product feed to Google
Base, and still there is no change.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Redirects were handled as best as able, and now the old HTML pages are
mostly gone from the SE listings.
We have so much riding on the effeciency and the effectivness of searh
engines, to lose what we had gained is a lot to bear. We are always
now at the whim of the search engine, regardless of who we are as a
company.
Again, MSN Live indexed the site perfectly. Google has fallen over
itself it has performed so badly. Add in the additional non-
performance issues regarding Google Base items and as a company of ten
years online, we've been quashed by the antics of those whose advise
prevails with the same authority as they exude with their programming
niche.
The problem is still not resolved nor within reason to be corrected
anytime soon. The webmaster control center indicates all systems are
go. No errors, and page listings in the thousands that never appear.

Until recently we enjoyed robust online sales from a company we began
ten years ago. We've worked to build a customer base but always have
relied on new business to keep us going. A good month would have sales
around $5000 or so. Google has a controlling interest in the success
or failure of how well our online sales can be. It seems a bit of a
disadvantage however when a search engine such as MSN Live indexes a
site and Google does not recognize the site in the same way. There is
without question a set of standards that we the internet, must adapt
or adopt too, the end result is still in control of the directory that
controls the information that is given for the listings within any
respective search engine directory. So much focus is given to the SEO
game but little if any is given to the premise and basis of the amount
of control the company that owns the directory has on the market place
and how if it chooses can filter and screen standardized formats such
as asp.net and in no uncertain terms discount and ignore information
that is accepted in one directory and not in its own.

Why would the mighty Google, for no good reason, not place a well
indexed site, one that has unique and quality content, in their
SERPs ? Again, Yahoo and MSN seem to handle them quite nicely.
So if Google's "strictness" is the problem, then why doesn't Cutts set
out ALL of the guidelines for proper inclusion in the SERPs ?
Unless we assume that he is a complete and total bumbling idiot, we
must accept the fact that he knows exactly what his mission is, and
that is to manage the algorithms in such a way as to favor the
generation of revenues for Google owners and shareholders.
People like you can speculate all you want, Arpit. The root of the
problem is that Cutts is under no obligation to explain anything to
any site owners except to those who contribute to his pay cheque
through their AdWords campaigns. To top it all off, Cutts himself
probably isn't aware of all of the nuances and results of his
algorithms.
Let's dance Arpit.
I'll drum.
You join in too Matt.

Honestly, with that much of a drop in sales while waiting for the site
to be indexed, and then only to learn that Google has its own agenda
and criteria, is rather bitter sweet.
If Google had performed as well as MSN/Live then I could focus my
attention on our ecommerce business instead of being caught in a
random state of ill fated repair waiting for Google to justify the
listings in a site it has known for the past ten years which simply
changed platfoms from HTML to asp.net using a state of the art
ecommerce platfom designed and developed by aspdnsf.

"The only point to this thread is that MSN/Live indexed the site
perfectly."
Wow that's a first. MSN does something right!
First off, I would re-evaluate what you are considering "performing well". Google has over 50% of the search marketshare and cost you a good chunk of business. MSN may have indexed your site "perfectly" but you're only capturing around 5% of the search space (depending on who is providing the data).
To answer your original question though, MSN Yahoo and Google all index things differently because they all have different algorithms and weight things differently. And they don't publish their actual indexing weights because doing such would essentially ruin their business models. The webmaster guidelines Google publishes are good to follow, but certainly aren't going to be a silver bullet to rocket to the top of the serps. I don't recall anywhere where Google has even remotely alluded to that.
I didn't see the URL of your site, but how did you redirect those URLs? 301 or 302? That will most definitely kill you in Google if they are temporary.
So, it is difficult to make a change for Google when MSN/Live has
indexed the site in a way I anticipated. But, I'm still at a loss as
to why Google can't even return a product that it shows as listed in
the Google Base item list? Nor, the respective parent node it is
listed under when such search results are rendered for those items
given query. It is difficult to amend or correct any problem when
the
logic Google demonstrates is so befuddling to me
MSN/Live is gaining on Google in a measuable way. MSN contiues to
offer more services than Google and improving upon a search engine is
not anything MSN can't handle.
The transistion we made using 301's could have gone better, regardless
I am still at the mercy of the Google search engine. Google needs a
check and balance system in place to so that it can correct its own
errors.

I would say don't underestimate the power of the search engine to
create fuzzy results that further perpetuate Googlers to keep
searching. I have a good sense for analytics and I know the short
comings of the site I just put together from which I can see the
pattern that has emerged as results are displayed., Coupled with the
way in which MSN/Live has indexed the site, and I have a baseline to
measure Google's performance with. Google is directly manipulating the
results to stack results so as to optimize its database of adsense
words. Google does not in a rational way measure or correct the
results it displays when it makes an error and here is one example.
The search term is simply Pebeo fabric markers. I'm looking
specifically for pages from my web site. The result Google returns is
at best Yarn.

Dear Google, Please stop the torture of our web business. We've lost
thousands of dollars of business a month since we upgraded our website
after Microsoft closed down bCentral last April 30th. We are an
established ecommerce company that first listed with you back in the
Stanford days. Since that time we have exceeded a half million dollars
in online sales, and now we are all but at a total loss. Months have
gone by and we are providing data through the site map routine. We
have 2700 items uploaded to the Google Base, and even those listings
are falling by the wayside. Why if MSN/Live can index our site
perfectly does Google continue to skew results and corrupt the output
of our carefully planned asp.net ecommerce site using
aspdotnetstorefront? Please in some way if possible, could you please
at least correct the Google Bot errors? Is there any system for error
checking or accountabilty that Google can demonstrate to fix so many
errors as to cause our business to stop and not even have the
opportunity to use adwords because of the way the site has been
indexed? Thanks, never-the-less. mark h
