marking one or more columns

Hi everyone,

i would like to edit a txt file by columns. i know that it's possible to mark a column by using alt+k key-shortcut, but after i know i have to use the keys +, - and * but i don't exactly know how to combine them.

can someone help me ?

sorry, i've succeeded by using the arrows keys. and after i'll try to findout how to edit the content of them, i guess the del key can delete the text, but i'd like to know how to type something to apply it to the marked text.

and finally how to print on the text line numbers.

for example i have a listing with some songs in a txt file.

i would like to add to the beginning of each line a number like 01, 02, 03 etc... i don't know how to do that automatically.

(let's say that the files list is already sorted by track number)

The movement of the cursor keys will not be automatically be restricted to the column only.

By default it is thus not so that you can select a block and then the cursor will stay only within that block.

Note: one could probably write some macros for that, which limit editing movement to stay

within the highlighted block only. 

Not sure if such a macro maybe exists already.

In my TSE Potpourri menu ('Escape' > 'Util' > 'Potpourri') there is a macro called

  FillNum

This will fill a column block with a sequence of numbers (e.g. your line numbers).

But not fully automatically adding line numbers (e.g. when you should press <ENTER>.

Default you will thus have to highlight your column block, then run this macro filling in the data first.

As a workaround you could e.g. automate it as usual using a keyboard macro for it

('Escape' > 'Macro' > 'Record Key Macro')

You can further only mark one column at the time.

Marking more than one column simultaneously is not possible, as far as I know.
