Subject: DIY CNC Plasma Table - Torch Sources, or Dealing with Hand Torch Safeties
I know a few people here have gotten CNC plasma torch systems running.

Roger, a friend of mine from the CNC Workshop, just reported to me
that he is finally done with his DIY CNC plasma table mechanics.

But, he has a question on getting or modding a torch, to mount onto it.

He reports that off-the-shelf CNC torches seem (IHO) pretty darn
expensive, whereas the cheaper hand plasma torches have built in
safeties that interfere with them being used on a CNC table.

He's not finding much information on properly overriding hand torch
safeties for using it on the project, and the companies making them
aren't willing to talk to him about how to do that (... most likely
out of liability concerns... Yea, that hampers Roger, but is probably
a wise "CYA" legal move on their part... ).

How have others dealt with the torch issue, to get one onto
their project "cheaply" yet safely, in terms of either:
- making their own torch,
- appropriately modding a hand torch's controls for CNC use, or
- finding a cheap ready-to-go (or easily moddable) CNC torch,
for their project?

Any ideas, insights, links to sources and/or instructions, advice,
or stories of your torch finding/modding experiences (good or
bad ;-) that I could pass on to him would be appreciated.

Thanks!
- Keith Mc.
