After many weeks and dozen's of posts from people unhappy about the lack of an API, Basis came back today with this:

Not feeling the urgency but at least they got the message right.

Anyone interested in hacking an API tool for Basis? Sounds easier than I'd thought … well easier for someone with the right skills and the watch anyway. Anyone in London who wants to try this can borrow my watch for the period you need to test it.

There is a new comment in topic Any word on export/api?.

I probably should have posted this a while back as I discovered this months ago.  While this doesn't help non-developers, but for those that are, you can trivially extract JSON formatted data from the API. Just open up the Developer Console in your browser and watch the /api/v1 XHR calls to extract any of the data you want. It's quite nicely formatted.  Someone could pretty easily write a wrapper tool for less technical people if they wanted to as well...

Hi Ken,

Is the API tool for off-line or on-line data collection?

I've been interested in the Basis since its original introduction at QS a couple of years back, a low cost non-invasive physiological sensor is really attractive for my work. However without access to the raw data in real-time its still of little use to me. If the Basis can at present stream data in real-time to another device then its possible the data can be intercepted and interpreted via the radio.

If the characteristics I've described fit the Basis unit it might be possible to collect packet data from a unit and figure it out from there, of which I'd be interested at looking at doing.
