Donation to SeleniumHQ

One user on my site showed interest to donate and asked me for direction.

I thought of pointing to SeleniumHQ but then realized there is no donate us feature on SeleniumHQ (is there?)

This discussion about donates us feature was brought (I think by Santi) in past when we were working on doc but it never materialized (I guess so).

So the question is -  is it worth having "Donate Us" on SeleniumHQ?

Patrick / Simon, can you share the details of how/ what account at Software Freedom Conservancy to link donations to?

I can see this http://sfconservancy.org/donate/

But I don't know how we could direct traffic from sehq to a (paypal?) link of some kind that references the donations are to the member project 'Selenium' :)

SFC selenium group. We should kick that off again.

And I am curious to know why it is not available on main site which is supposedly accessed by large number of audience i.e. -

The proposal was pretty much what is here:

The main objection, IIRC, from the broader group was that the site end up plastered with corporate logos similar to a Nascar car (http://static.ddmcdn.com/gif/nascar-schedule-1.jpg for those unfamiliar). I have the same concern. But I also believe we mostly came to the conclusion to try it out for a year and tweak as necessary.

Tibbits that still need action to me are setting up the full 'flow' of sponsorship. We need a test run of someone playing the 'dumb' third party wanting to sponsor selenium. What are some of questions they would ask / want to know when sponsoring? (We should try to answer them on the sponsors page).

In the other email thread with conservancy, Bradley answered my questions, but the sponsorship page is not reflected in such a way (like how to provide a logo, who to contact).

Also transparency items are not satisfied in my opinion (links to how Selenium spends money, SFConservancy's IRS filings are inadequate, they don't give project breakdown), I think we need both how we intend to spend the money and how any money has been spent. ~ As 'in touch' as I am with the project, I personally would not donate to the project unless this was available (yes, i typically do look into how charities spend their money that I donate to).

I don't think anything in the email thread was intended to be private and since the main thing that was intended to be private (sponsors link) was already broadcast, I'm attaching the full thread from the referenced email. Apologies to any who intended the conversation to remain private. But I feel it needs to be out there for the sake of transparency.

One thing that I can suggest is, we can use the donations for the Selenium conference(logistics, flight tickets, dinner) that we are doing. So that when the conference is going to happen we don't have to look for sponsors and we can always use the donation that we have in stock.

Hi,

No extra thoughts to add. I think Luke's point about how we and the SFC are spending sponsorship money. For the record, we have used our current funds in a number of different ways, but typically for paying for hosting and other infrastructure costs, on at least one occasion paying to support a key contributor to join the others at an event, and to cover the shortfall on the last Selenium Conf (which we ran just a touch too close to the bone).

How we make that information available in the future is an open question and a separate discussion.
