Steve,

I was bidding on it until someone outbid me. It's all yours if you want it.

thanks! I'll see what the last minute bidding does then.

I wanted it because it has the Double Density controller card in it which
means it has all the upgraded (and impossible to find) PALs in it too. Just
having another set of those around would be worth getting it to me. Keep
that in mind when you're bidding on it - might consider bidding a little
higher than you normally would.

curious... did you just ask the seller or are there things about the
description that offered up that info?

Looking at the interior photo shows the Double Density controller card with
the 16 pin jumper wire to the CPU board. It's pretty easy to tell from that.
Like I said, I have one of these controllers so I can spot it pretty easily.
In fact, the new 88-7 that appeared recently on eBay (for $199???) also has
the Double Density card.

Oh, and I should also mention that in order to use the Double Density card
in the H89 it required PAL upgrades (they were included with the card). So
if the card is in the machine it probably also has the upgraded PAL chips.

Steve,

I'm bidding on the CP/M lot, Cobol lot and the Basic-80 software.

Can somebody remind me what's the difference between an 88 and an 89? Did
the 88 come with no disk drive? There was a kit to convert an H19 wasn't
there? I only have the H8, never an 88/89.

I can remember a few years back when 89's were pretty cheap. Seemed like
there wasn't much demand. Didn't they often go for less than $50?

the description for the "museum quality h89" currently on Ebay
describes the diff as: the H88 has a cassette port while the H89 has
a floppy system.

IIRC that sounds right.

would any of the other stuff be of value to the library? (or is it
already there?)

Yes, that's how I understand it too. This H88-7 is all new to me though. In
the last month I've seen 2 appear on eBay and another member here mentioned
they came across one and was looking for software for it.

But yes, the H88 used cassette for storage and the H89 added a floppy drive.

I've considered bidding on the Fortran package too. I already have Word
Wiggle and Adventure in the library and I think there's a copy of the Chef
software too.

$50? Wow. Demand sure has picked up. They don't go for nearly what an H8
goes for though. Seeing an H8 on eBay go for $500+ just blows my mind but
it's good to see that they still have value.

The H88-7 is most likely just an accessory, probably the upgrade for adding the internal drive to the H88. This system is upgraded from the H88, to include both the soft-sectored and hard-sectored controller, but it looks to be in bad condition.

All,

I have a pair of 400L H17 floppy drives in excellent working conditions. The pair of drives are free and just asking for the shipping expenses, which might be between $10 to $20.00 dollars.

Thanks,

Norberto Collado :)

I'll take them if noone else needs them. Could always use a good extra set of 5 1/4" drives.

Les,

I wonder if you'd share one of these drives. I've been working on
Mark's new disk image proposal by writing code to read a full track on
an H17. Immediately after successfully producing a good sample I
began having some problems that I suspect may be hardware related -
maybe my H17 drive, ergo the question.

Can you send one of those drives to Dan?

Thanks.
