So where do you get your Q From?
I need to get barbecue catering for work and am wondering where you
would suggest. I'm feeding about 60 people, and the budget is likely
around 10-15 a head.
Places I've checked already are
Lonhorn Barbecue
Steel Pig Barbecue

I need your opinions on others. For example, OK Corral in Greenwood
looks scary, but are they good? What about Smokin Petes? 3 Pigs in
Bellevue? Bodacious Bills in Renton? i'm willing to drive to pick it
up, It's just got to be good. :-)

OK Corral is usually very good. Otis is from Mississippi, and he does a
real good job with the food. You'll get huge portions for not so much
$$. If you get the "Hookup" you wind up with ribs, chicken, hot links,
along with greens, sometimes beans, cornbread. Good stuff.

Smokin' Pete's is also very good, with a wider selection of meats (and
completely different stylees than OK Corral), but for a bit more $$.
The sides are a little pricey for the amount you get (a *small* bowl of
cajun rice cost about double what I figured it should have). Their
brisket is wonderful. They'll also do bulk orders of the meats, so you
can probably save a little money over getting individually packed meals
if you like.

Either one should suit your needs. Try a lunch from each of them (hard
life, having to taste test barbecue!), then check with them to see how
much they'll charge for the number of people and amount of food you
need, and go with whatever you like best.

When did they put up the Kingdome?

Although a vegetarian, and so haven't had the BBQ at Barbacoa, the
food there is excellent and I know that they cater. It's probably a
Texas style BBQ, as the rest of the food is TexMex or similar.

Not "when," but "what." They put a bunch of explosives up the
Kingdome, and made it go boom.

Seriously, the new branch of Jones Bros BBQ is where Seattle Super
Smoke used to be, just a block east of 1st Ave. S. on S. Lander.
It's a solid recommendation for barbecue, although I've found the
sides to be a bit on the bland side. Perhaps that because we make
pretty good greens at home.

OK Corral is *great* !! Good portions; good sauce.

"Bob EQ" in the Seattle area is a "moving target".

We were at OK Corral Friday night. It got honorable mention in the July
issue of Sunset magazine's feature on the best BBQ in the west. We'd
never seen so many people there before. Otis must have recruited some
friends to help him deal with the onslaught of customers.

Suggestion: If you visit OK Corral, ask for sauce on the side. If you
don't, they will cover your food with a river of the stuff.

As Cindy noted, we were there on Friday. The sauce was different from
what I remember from our previous visits. More heat (pepper), and a bit
of cinnamon, I think. Maybe Otis has been fiddling with his recipe, or
maybe it just varies...

Here at work we've used "Jaspers BBQ" from Duvall quite a bit. I've
never been on the budget side of things with them, but I seem to
recall $12 a person. Plus they've got smoker/trailer that they can
bring out and serve directly from.

To each his own. For me it is the only reason to cross 520 to Bellevue.

Does Tony Roma's count as BBQ? I don't know if they cater.

The best catered BBQ I've had was Teddy Bear BBQ
(www.teddybearbbq.com) for a work function of ~150 people. The food
was out of this world, including the sides. They towed in a giant
grill/smoker which was kind of fun to see. I actually prefer the
North Carolina vinegar-based style of BBQ (which isn't what this is),
but I still enjoyed it. My coworker and I compared notes afterwards
and regretted that we didn't have another piece of lemon cake. They
do BBQ contests and street fairs as well.

Is there any of that in Seattle? I only know of Texas-style
places.

I haven't found it, so we cook it at home. With all the transplanted
people in Seattle, you'd think there'd be more variety. The Seattle
library had a fun video on the regional styles that we got out once -
they use a mustard sauce in South Carolina (I've cooked it a home with
good results) and certain counties in Kentucky use mutton as their
main BBQ meat. I think this is the video,
