Hey all.

I know that we have nothing resembling a date for the next meetup, nor am I going to propose one, but I do think that it's a good idea to start thinking about a game to play, if only because more time hopefully means more people will find time to play the game. Or it allows us to play longer games. Or something. Here are some ideas! If anybody has other suggestions I am all for it.

Recent things that I've played and think would be fun to discuss:

Cryptozookeeer (Robb Sherwin)
Pros: large, unusual, rich content, diverse, graphics
Cons: large, dodgy implementation, kinda dark

Mentula Macanus: Apocolocyntosis (Adam Thornton)
Pros: entertaining, large, self-indulgent classics/literature jokes, available source code
Cons: large, squick-out sex humour (not as bad as The Undiscovered Country, but still), self-indulgent classics/literature jokes

Things that I've been meaning to play and would be grateful for the nudge:

maybe make some change (Aaron Reed)
(I've played an earlier version, but not the public release under this title)
Pros: multimedia, Serious Issues
Cons: Game Most Likely To Make You Quit From Moral Discomfort 2011

Ekphrasis (JB Ferrant)
Pros: graphics, large, plotty
Cons: French-language

The House of Fear (Colleen Boye)
Pros: historical fiction, artsy
Cons: somewhat-illogical puzzles?

The Journey of the King / The Ebb and Flow of the Tide (Peter Nepstad)
Pros: IF adaptation!
Cons: ?

Jigsaw (Graham Nelson)
Pros: classic puzzlefest of masochism
Cons: ha ha ha no

I would be interested in either of those top 2 choices:
Cryptozookeeper or Mentula Macanus: Apocolocyntosis. I will be
playing both of them regardless!

I want to try Cryptozookeeer, The House of Fear and The Journey of the
King. We had "The Ebb and Flow of the Tide" for an earlier session, so
I'm happy to revisit chatting about that.

As for meeting times .... 14/15th of Jan and 28th/29th of Jan, we're
available. February, we're free too. We can do Eastside or UW and can
drive people if we do the Eastside.

Another vote for House of Fear.

I already know I won't get the jokes in Thornton's work, and
Cryptoetc. sounded a bit campy from the adverts.

Currently no opinion on possible dates. Or locations.

I'm happy to try whatever game is chosen. I could do Jan 14 if we meet
a little earlier, say around 1:30. I couldn't find any convenient
library conference rooms on the eastside for that day, though. If I'm
the only eastsider, it makes sense if we meet in Seattle most of the
time.

Ron: At a liberal estimate, there are perhaps four people in the IF community who will get all the jokes in Mentula. And some of the jokes are, uh, difficult to miss. But both that and Cryptozookeeper have some mildly old-skool sensibilities, so they may not be your cup of tea.

(Not sure that I'd call CZK camp, exactly. It's very, very Robb Sherwiny. More Gen-Xish than camp.)

It looks as if we've got a tie between Cryptozookeeper and House of Fear. Anybody want to cast a deciding vote?

Cool. I've updated the game log on the website with it.
