Hello! I think it would be awesome to get some more regularly scheduled meetings - been travelling a bit the past month but free all the rest of sept + October.

Here's a question though: What do YOU want from our group? Ithink some group activities like a 2 hour spspeed if or maybe playing through a game. Or if you want we could do something less formal and have dinner at (for example) capitol club. So many possibilities! If we want to keep meeting at us, I'm cool with that but we should break the sterility a bit and order a pizza or something.

How does early October sound for next meet up?

All of those ideas sound good to me.  I think a speed IF get-together could be a lot of fun...although if not everyone writes IF, it could be excluding.  We could always do that and a normal get-together (or play-through, or dinner, etc.).
As far as me personally being able to attend, anytime from October 10th on would work well for me.

I've been at in-person speedIF events at PAX, and they tend to be most fun as collaborative events -- so even if one person doesn't know a coding language, they can team up with someone who does. Collaboration can speed up SpeedIF work considerably; while testing Mango, Aaron Reed coded while Duncan Bowsman and Alexei Othenin-Girard hovered over betatesters and yelled out things to fix; it felt as much like emergency triage as anything. That said, those events have generally been day-long affairs, rather than the ultra-traditional 2-hour limit. I'd plan for at least 4-5 hours, plan on polishing things up later on, or both.

(That said, this may be as much a reflection of how I feel about the usefulness of speedIF for my own personal purposes; I've done a bunch of one-sitting speedIFs and don't think I stand to gain much more from 'em, which is why I've steered the speedIF-like things I've organised more and more in the direction of minicomps. So folks who aren't burned out on trad speedIF might do well to disregard some or all of this.)

More broadly: hmm. I'd like to see the group do more in the way of Things Useful To IF Development, whether that's alpha/betatesting or roughing out design ideas or active collaboration or whatever people want to do. And I think more informal contexts, at least some of the time, could help with that. Like, I dunno, at the PAX events the most constructive conversations weren't the ones people had in formal panels with a whole room of people only one of whom spoke at a time, so much as the ones in bars and the suite and Nick Montfort's bedroom at two in the morning. (And selfishly I like the Capitol Club because it's one easy bus-ride away, and I'm familiar with it from the storygames meetup.)

Early October sounds good. There are a few Sundays which are probably not ideal, but mostly I'm good whenever.

Capitol Club sounds good. Things have been hectic for us recently, and
are likely to remain hectic for the next few weeks (unavailable
weekends of 13th/14th and 20th/21st) - but, hopefully things will slow
down in November.

Hope to see you all soon,
Adrienne

I'm free most any Saturday or Sunday.   Just name a time & place & I'm there.

IFComp started. Can we have a group of us post reviews to the group blog?   I don't have it in me to do as many as last year, but I feel we should maintain an online presence, and I think the internets would appreciate more voices coming from our blog than just mine.  (Of course, if you already have a personal blog and put your reviews there, maga, then you're exempt from this plea.)

Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb and try to resurrect this topic, since it sort of collapsed a few months ago.  Just checking to see if there is still interest out there to meet up soon, either at the rotunda, or elsewhere.  I'm very interested, personally (in a normal get-together-and-talk, a play-through-together, or a speed-if-codefest, or whatever else...barring housework, I'm not down with a let's-do-housework! get-together).  I am entirely free at present (ah, joblessness), so any time would work for me, and any place.  Just schedule it and I'm there.  Anyone want to step up and say "I'm gonna organize this!"?  Please?

I'm up for getting together sometime but with my current schedule it's probably best to put me in the 'I'll try to come but can't commit to organizing.'

Hopefully the schedule will lighten next month.

Sent from my mobile, please pardon brevity.
