I’m
still buzzing from the two church quarry shows and
solo MWP/Tiare show last weekend in WA
:-)
A big thanks must go to Andrew Ryan for working so hard to get the solo MWP show off the ground. This was a once-off occasion for Perth fans - a small intimate acoustic show at The Loft in Fremantle. To my knowledge Marty has never performed solo in Perth before?
Marty is, as always, a great performer. He makes that 12-string sing and at times was worried his voice may be too loud for the small venue. Tiare compliments Marty’s stylings just fine with her sweet, lush and breathy voice. The duo were also accompanied by the cellist from Fall Electric, Tristan. This was sublime! Both Marty and Tiare hung around afterwards to chat with fans, sign CD’s and give photo ops. Cheers guys – you're awesome!
Here’s the setlist for the MWP/Tiare show:

The 2 x Quarry shows were, simply put, the best church shows I’ve seen since 1990. It’s been said before on Séance but I’ll say it again, these boys are simply on fire with this tour. Peter was especially rocking the Friday night show! All the guys had their moment under the stars, lights and dragon-flies at the Quarry. Steve runs amok at the end of Space Saviour – warbling distortion and feedback. It’s great to see everyone having so much fun on stage. Steve was also being OTT during Operetta with his mock-ballet-style dance moves – just great fun.
The setlist for both shows was identical and here it is below:
The
Church Quarry Shows 17 & 18 December 2009
Tantalized
Block
Day 5
NSEW
Happenstance
Theatre & its Double
Disarm
A Month of Sundays
Deadman's Hand
Pangaea
You Took
Operetta
Milky Way
Reptile
-------
(encore 1)
Angel St.
Myrrh
-------
(encore 2)
An Interlude
Space Saviour
-------
(encore 3)
Hotel Womb
Standout songs for me were Tantalized and NSEW (even more so on the second night), Day 5 (absolute beautiful soundscape), Happenstance, Theatre (both nights), Deadman’s Hand, You Took (second night was amazing) and Reptile, Angel St (when played live has the lead guitar interplay I felt lacked on the album), Myrhh, An Interlude, Space Saviour (rocked both nights), Hotel Womb (fantastic closer!).
So from the above, it would seem that I loved mostly everything J We took a few photo’s at the Thursday night show. Unfortunately the security were camera nazi’s and were telling people off when it was apparent they were filming. We managed to get some footage but the poor sound quality makes it unlistenable. When photo’s have been posted online – I’ll send through the links… I didn’t take any photos on the Friday night as I was just too caught up in the show and didn’t want to miss a thing.
I was lucky enough to meet the band back-stage after the Thurs night show (thanks Sue & Tiare for setting this up). I had some vinyl with me to get signed – mission accomplished.
I’m really looking forward to what the church have in store for us next year – 30th anniversary tour and more! 2010 could well be the Year of the Church.
Merry
Christmas Seancers!
