Although I think the section number should be 2304.11.2.6 to be
consistent with the current code.

I believe the code prohibits contact between untreated wood and concrete/masonry. I don’t think there is any spacing requirement. I have seen contractors coat concrete with asphalt or put felt paper between the wood and the concrete to prevent contact. I think the truss companies just put a thin metal plate between untreated trusses and the masonry/concrete bearing wall.

Subject: Re: Separation of wood
from slabs in the CBC?
Ralph,
Someone about a week or two ago mentioned that a CBC supplement was issued
about reducing this 8" requirement where paving occurs.
-gm
I have not seen the supplement, but the existing section 2304.11.2.6 already
allows 6" clearance to wood ***SIDING***. Section 2304.11.2.2 does require
8" clearance to wood ***SHEATHING*** and FRAMING [except 6" is ok for
DSA/OSHPD projects when concrete slab or asphalt paving occurs].

"...except where siding, sheathing, and wall framing are of naturally
durable or preservative-treated wood"
Since the siding is presumably the lowest point of the three, that's
where it would be measured from.
