Would love to. But we need volunteers to do some ground work. At least find a free venue and freeze on the dates.

I'm planning to visit US between June 10-23rd. If something is planning during those days, I would love to join as well.

I would love this.

I'm asking around about a free venue.  The one I'm hoping for is in Arlington, Virginia, USA, across the river from Washington, DC, a few minutes walk from a metro station.

What would be the maximum number of people it needs to accommodate?  Maybe 100?

I was looking at doing it again in the Philly region. The hard part isn't getting a venue it's getting a core group of people to run it.

I had multiple people back out because of other commitments.  Getting this organized is a bigger then one person job.

In the past the conference had been free to attendee. This has been accomplished via sponsors. I've found it's easy to get cheap or reduced rate venues but it's hard to get free.

Arlington is a close drive it be interested in helping...

Narish,

Let me see what we might be able to get together here in Philly.
Preferably on a Saturday or Sunday?

But gee, it would be great to have an SD&T Open Space Conference again.

Also, besides AgilePhilly, there is a new group in town called "Software
as a Craft" that meets in downtown Philadelphia, who can be found at
http://www.meetup.com/Software-as-Craft-Philadelphia/

Here in Philadelphia, in the Conshohocken/Bala Cynwyd section, we will
have a regular evening meeting of AgilePhilly on Tues June 16, 6:30pm.

The topic for this regular meeting is not set, but you are welcome to
come and see the 40 or so "new recruits" that make up AgilePhilly.
Hell, we may even put together a separate regular meeting if you are in
town. You are welcome to come and present any night you are in town - I
will rustle up pizza and a meeting location. Bring your favorite
CardDeck.

In the mean time, the regular AgilePhilly meeting is Tuesday June 16th,
2015 6:30 PM Mike Harris of David Consulting Group, Malvern PA who
presents at our AgileTour every October is presenting, but the topic is
not set yet. http://www.agilephilly.com/events/mike-harris-of-dcg

And Narish, I will keep an eye out for other events/venues in other
cities too.

- John Voris, Lead Coordinator, AgilePhilly

(For those of you who may not know, Narish is one of the founders of
AgilePhilly way back in 2004. He created several SDT conferences hosted
at Penn State campuses over the years when he was here.)

The early SDTConfs sure bring back some great memories. :)

Naresh, you should give yourself a pat on the back that so many people want to have you come to their area, and have such good memories of meetings and conferences past.  (I totally concur with Corey about that.)

As for me, my hope of course is that we can have it in the Washington area, but that naturally requires that we provide a venue and Naresh select this area.  I'm working on it! :)

We want a place where there can be several concurrent activities, as opposed to a single classroom, right?  Or a room large enough so that multiple groups can meet in various parts and not be drowned out noisewise by each other, right?

By the way, how many days are we talking about?  1?  2?

I'm somewhat connected with the Charlottesville, Virginia tech community (C'ville is the home of the excellent University of Virginia).  They may have a space if we can't find one anywhere else; but it is a trek there from most places.

David, if we do have it in Arlington, or anywhere in the DC area, please feel free to use me as a resource for any information or help you may need.

Thanks folks. Now you've got me charged up. Let's shoot for an awesome good-old SDTConf.

We typically start on Friday evening and wrap up on Sunday evening. If its hard to get the space we can always start on Saturday morning.

3 parallel rooms with projectors would be good.

Philly area would be awesome! That's what it all started. But to be fair, Keith if you can find a space in DC Area, we would be happy to do it there as well. I know Joel can find place in Chicago as well.

As far as sponsors go, I think we can find them. Worst case, all of us can pitch in money provided we can get the venue for free or very cheaply.

Thanks again.

If it is post-june in Chicago, I'll be there. SDTConf is still one of my favorite conferences

An update...I was hoping my employer could provide space, but I'm pretty sure that won't be possible.

We might be able to get space at George Mason University Arlington campus, through a staff member there.  My friend there said that a classroom would be free, but I don't know about 3 of them.  The open space Ruby conference we held there last week was for 100 people, and we rented a large room that fit the entire group that he said will cost about $600, and got some additional rooms thrown in.

Shall I look into this some more?  If we're pretty sure about the maximum of 50 then it's possible we could get 3 rooms for free, with at least one of them big enough for the whole group when we're together.

A caveat to the free'ness though, it requires that no cleanup be needed afterwards...so we'd need to be really careful about that.

I've got a contact for a Philly area university venue. If we do it there they would like to have it at a time when students could attend.

For me it fell apart with not having to time to get sponsors.  I'm happy to help with organizing anywhere in the midatlantic region.

I'll attend/volunteer for it anywhere ;) but my connections more likely to be useful to organizing if it's nearby.

Would students be around in June? I'm not too worried about the sponsors. I'm sure all of us can self-fund it. We've done that in the past.

I'll ask at my place of employment.  I start a new job on Monday (april 13) and this may be of interest to them.

Group,

Looks like we've found a host for the conference in Minneapolis.

Would June 12 evening -14th evening work better or June 19th evening - 21st evening? Any preferences?

Naresh -

All other things being equal, I think the 12th to the 14th would be better because (I just discovered that) the 21st is Fathers Day and many people will want to be with their families.

That said, I could do either weekend.

By the way, could you tell us the location?  I want to do some preparatory research on lodging and need to know what part of town it’s in.

Also, about what time Friday do you anticipate starting?  How serious would it be to miss Friday evening if I decide not to miss the Friday workday in transit?  And what time Sunday do you anticipate ending?

Thanks,
Keith

Let's shoot for 13th and 14th June. The venue is not finalised, but I'm hoping it would be around 46th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55419. Stay tuned.

I'm glad its going to happen again. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend but will be with you in spirit and dollars at least.

Dave's Definitions: Morning, is after I've slept for more than four hours. Lunch is the second meal of the day no matter the hour of consumption. A long drive is one longer then you have last slept. Ineffable, if you don't understand I couldn't possibly explain it.
