Join the SDS National Campaign: Student Power for Accessible Education!

Hey SDSers,

At the recent 2008 Students for a Democratic Society National Convention, held at College Park, Maryland, SDS passed its first ever national campaign proposal,

Student Power for Accessible Education! 

Now the campaign is officially in motion and we'd like to invite more SDS members to join this exciting opportunity and help move our organization forward.  It's a great way to get involved if you're new or have never done national work before!

Student Power for Accessible Education (SPFAE) has huge potential to build our organization, revolutionize the American educational system, and build a strong student movement, but we need your help to make it happen! 

Some of our long term goals include free universal higher education, student debt forgiveness, an end to compulsory and coercive education, and student, faculty, and community control over decisions. 

In order to eventually win these goals we need students organizing locally to build student power and achieve short term winnable goals.  Already, SDS chapters around the country are organizing for student-led debt relief workshops, student unions, budget transparency, divestment, cheaper textbooks, tuition freezes, and administrator and board accountability. 

This campaign is about making our schools the democratic, accessible, empowering institutions that they should be.  We're taking power away from those who see students as dollar signs, and distributing that power among students, workers, and communities.  Please take part in the international student movement for peace and democracy!
