Dear SDrandos:
Good morning! One of the voted items from the 30th July 2008 San Diego
County Bicycle Coalition Board Meeting was to ask for a moratorium on
center-line rumble strip creation. The issue -- yes, they may help keep
traffic from inadvertantly (in sleep, while texting, etc) moving into
the lane going the other way, BUT they also discourage motorists from
passing cyclists at a safe distance on those no-shoulder State Routes
and rural roads (yes, I'm looking at YOU Rice and Couser Canyons).
The boar4 voted on a measure to ask for a moratorium on center line
rumble stiping until standards that include cyclists' needs are
formulated. As one of San Diego's resevoirs of back road experience on
bikes, please make your opinion heard, nicely, to Jim Baross of the
California Association of Bicycling Organizations (
jimb...@cox.net)
and Kathy Keehan, executive director of the SDCBC (
exe...@sdcbc.org).
