If you're up to it, join up on Saturday for the Bike Path X Two Permanent.
This route starts at Camel Valley Rd./El Camino Real AM/PM at 8:00.

We'll do both major North County Bike Paths: SR-56 Bike Path & San Luis Rey Bike Path.
Not a lot of climbing, and it's a shorty route of only 130K, so we'll be back early too!

If you're Rando riding, bring the signed waiver to the start. (Email John Mestemacher or myself)

Check out the video for full route description at:

Routeslip/etc on the SDRando site.

Bring you light, fast rando bike for this one!
see you there,

Hey there Kelly!

I just might make this one with my light belt a beaming and lots of self-demoting too.

Our Rando friend, fast Sam Thomas, will be joining us for this ride on
Saturday.
He is in town for a few days after leaving for Boston last Fall.

It will be nice to ride with Sam again and listen to him recant tall
tales of his cycling prowess.
As Sam once said: "If you look fast, you'll go fast!"

Guess it's time for some new shorts, jersey and bike for me!

Ride recap:
A nice group of riders joined up for this Permanent and "Welcome Back"
Sam ride. 18 total riders!
Rando riders were well represented with Robert Abraham, JImbo Wisener,
Steve Elliott, Jaime Gurrola, Osvaldo Colavin, Kelly DeBoer, Bill
Sheffler, honorary rider Sam Thomas & route owner John Mestemacher.
North County Cycle Club and OFR Thursday Gruppo riders included Troy
Buss, Tony Long, Tom Hicks, Judy Richwine, Ben Hassal, Mike Tull &
Chris Darnell and a few others.

After the usual chit-cha,t we left the AM/PM at 8:00 sharp and a few
hundred feet later, entered the SR-56 Bike Path eastward.
Riding at a leisurely pace and listening to tall tales of riding
excellence, we quizzed Robert on his new dyno hub/light setup on his
rando bike. He is installing a new Supernova E-3 light on his front
rack this weekend and can't wait to road test it out!

Climbing specialist Tony Long joined us at the Poway Control. He
lives just up the street and works at the Wild Animal Park in
Escondido. I think maybe he scoops-up after the elephants or something
like that?
Riders were anxious to chat with Sam and learn how he liked the new
job back in Boston. He said the weather was great for working out in
the gym and he had "0" hours on the bike since he left Temecula last
fall! OUCH! Sam always told us randos that "If you look good, you'll
ride fast!" HUH? (He rode his pristine Pinarello Prince on this day!)

We pick up a strong rider named "Big John" on the way northward on
Pomerado Road through Poway. We also came across Rando Bill Sheffler,
who had started after we did at Carmel Valley Road.
Steve Elliott took off ahead, since he had to get back early for a
birthday party in the afternoon. Steve lives just off the route near
Rancho Bernardo.

We crossed the Lake Hodges Bridge and followed the route slip up
Sunset Dr. and through the old historic area of Escondido along
Juniper Street. At a short stop a Jesmond Dene Park, Sam said he was
"cooked" and was riding with Ben back to the start via San Marcos and
Rancho Santa Fe. Nice return route.. I'm sure Ben picked some nice
hills for Sam to climb like Twin Oaks on the way back!

The long downhill on Champagne Blvd. was fun. We just got behind Jaime
and flew down! Osvaldo had a flat(piece of glass) so John stayed with
him as the rest of us pace-lined along Camino del Rey to the Mickie
"D's" in Bonsall. They were only 8 minutes behind! They change those
flats really fast!

A few of us just had a yogurt or ice cream, but Judy R. had the meal
thing with extras! She is training for the Ironman and packed it in!
The group left Bonsall and turned on the resurfaced Hwy. 76 westward
into a stiff headwind. This road was good with all the construction in
the area, and had a bike lane again. Tom Hicks took off ahead and
missed the turn onto River Road! Never saw him again till the finish.

Nice rider line along the San Luis Rey Bike Path into a nasty headwind
all the way to Oceanside. The pace picked up after Oceanside. Dan
Phillips & Troy Buss left us along Coast Hwy. They rode in early in
the morning and were going home! We took a Swami's break and
recruiting drive for the next ride! We all made quick work of the Del
Mar climb and rolled into the Finish and packaged sandwiches! Tony
Long continued on the SR-56 Bike Path toward Sabre Springs and after
some chit chat, John M. and Robert rode back to the coast and home!

A nice group of different riders, weather was good, stiffing breeze
from the west and mostly sun all day.
But the most fun of all were the tall tales of dog chasing, overnight
memories and porno DVD's on In-Ko-Pah Pass!

Go figure...
