OBJECTIVE:
ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT MANAGER position where my proven abilities in leadership,
conceptualizing, innovating, deciding and promoting will contribute directly to
improved business opportunities, increased equipment sales, reduced operational
costs, and long-term profitability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Continued, progressively responsible experience in all aspects of mechanical
engineering design, production, marketing and servicing of
agricultural/industrial equipment, supported by a Bachelor's Degree in
Mechanical Engineering, with demonstrated creative, inventive, resourceful,
multi-tasking proficiency in conceptual prototype through production design of
specialized mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment. Possess skills in
OEM purchasing, Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), manufacturing, marketing,
management, training, negotiating, inventory control, pricing, facilities
management, and operations. Perceptive understanding of mechanisms with strong
analytical abilities to problem solve and make inventions work. See creative
solutions to real world problems - where others see gridlock. Experienced with
a variety of agricultural, industrial equipment. Hands-on, down-to-earth,
decision-maker with the ability to work with vendors and customers to build
constructive and lasting relationships.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
MANAGED production by hiring, training and supervising 15 production personnel
in the following area: quality control, safety, scheduling, layout, machining,
metal fabricating, welding, cleaning, painting, assembling, packaging, shipping,
and servicing. Negotiated with over 50 OEM and job-shop vendors on a recurring
basis to purchase OEM/industrial components, maintain quality control, and
minimize operating costs.
INCREASED quality and production capacity by creating in-house tooling and
procedures for fabrication, assembly, and material handling in the production of
air mist sprayer frames, stainless steel tanks, blower housings, centrifugal
fans, chain drive boxes, gear boxes, customer weed sprayers, weed sprayer booms,
wind machine towers, ladders, engine frames, sheet metal cowlings, and
fiberglass composite propellers for wind machines.
DESIGNED and BUILT a complete set of production tooling and welding fixtures for
producing wind machines engine frames and covers, towers, ladders, and other
steel components. Designed and built a mold handling device for 18 foot long
composite Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) propeller production. This propeller was
far superior to the competition because it was much lighter and moved twice the
volume of air as the closest competitor. Designed and built tooling to form
manhole necks through round tank shells eliminating conventional neck welding
which cut production time by 50% and reduced material costs by 100%.

CREATED a Pacific Northwest wind machine business that now provides frost
protection for over $500 million of fruit crop each year. This enterprise
encompasses engineering, manufacturing, marketing, distributing, and servicing
of $60 million of wind machines (4,000 units) in the United States and the
international market.
DESIGNED, PRODUCED and MARKETED nearly 1000 customized air mist sprayer systems
used for spraying deciduous fruit trees, citrus trees, grapes, hops, nuts in
many fruit areas of the United States. The concept of spraying small micron
particles was new to the United States when we started to promote it, but is now
an accepted industry standard.
INVENTED, PRODUCED and MARKETED orchard weed spray systems that increased by
400% the weed spray acreage coverage. This led to the manufacturing and sale of
over 400 weed boom systems, which included trailer mounted, stainless steel
tanks and spray delivery equipment. By using my engineering skills in helping
customers, we increased our annual sales by an extra $300,000 with my initiative
in starting this spare time project.
DESIGNED, BUILT and MARKETED a $60,000 prototype sprayer with great sales
potential. The sprayer was a narrow, air cooled diesel, air mist sprayer that
used two sets of directional contra-rotating fan assemblies directing air
uniformly through foliage of high, closely planted citrus and olive trees. This
sprayer produced a far superior grade of fruit and permitted growers to plant
their trees closer thus dramatically increasing their yield per acre.
DESIGNED, BUILT and MARKETED a $10,000 pheromone dispensing sprayer to the USDA
for codling moth mating disruption research. The sprayer was a single side air
mist sprayer, stainless steel tank, diesel engine driven, and trailed behind an
All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). This new technology permits a more focused attack
against the apple industries number one enemy (the codling moth), and provides
more environmentally favorable chemicals.
MARKETED frost protecting wind machines. Increased sales by creating a
propeller comparison test that demonstrated the effectiveness of our wind
machine air coverage area compared to competitors. Customers could visualize
propeller generated air movement generated by four different propellers over a
ten-acre orchard. This demonstration resulted in an initial order for 18
machine ($250,000), with another 500 sales ($7.6 million) that followed
including exports, as well as causing a competitor to redesign their propeller.
