Senior Project Manager responsabilities.

Hello,

We have spoken in some other threads about the Senior Project Manager responsabilities.

Check this descripion.

The senior Project/Program Manager will manage multiple projects portfolio across different business units. He/She will identify and own all project delivery commitments Delivery Center makes to clients and work with other disciplines to ensure successful delivery of all project work. He/She will plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. He/She will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

Well, in my opinion, the Project/Program manager can not "control" every aspect (requierements, planning, etc ) of 3 scrum teams. ( maximum two, and I doubt it )

They can at a very high level, but this is always going to be difficult.

What is your experience on this?

I love the phrase used "  He/She will plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget ". Seems they are looking to hire an angel/ hermit who can "exactly" estimate when will the snowstorm blow, when will there be a network failure, when will someone fall ill and for exactly how many days etc etc and thus make plans to deliver the projects under strict "timelines" and "within budget"

I see your point. Furthermore, as I say, I do not think he can manage everysingle aspect of a three teams. I have seen

Scrum masters/Product Owners struggling to know everything about a project...

The worse part of this PM description is that the HR recruiter will
tell candidates that the company fully embraces modern Agile processes
in its product development lifecycle! And what is this about owning
commitments made by the Delivery Center? I bet those are made
independant of the Team, too...

It's unfortunate this description of a PM role is far too common in
today's job market.

Yeah it's unfortunate that some HR and Recruiters do not understand.
Remember though, a lot of people who "know" agile may not really
understand it either.

It's about personal accountability. This one is sending up "red
flags" for some people -- good.

Hi guys,

I always wondered where those funny job descriptions are coming from.
Who is that clever guy writing them The century had changed, no one
(but God) can control all these. There will be no non-Agile software
development by 2020, or earlier :)

Sounds like another useless role (and chair) looking from the Agile
perspective.

They could also write "Will hire a person to blame for our inability
to meet deadlines".
