Hi,

There's been no activity on the Beta for some while, and no sound from
the author. Is everything well? Is the new Screebl coming anytime soon
(specifically the Tasker integration).

Cheers.

Screebl is not dead.  The beta is moving more slowly right now than I had hoped, but I'm planning to finish that up and migrate the beta code over to the existing Pro and Lite branch by summer's end.

Sorry for the slow movement, but rest assured that Screebl lives!

Not dead, just slow in moving the beta to production.  It's tricky to swap in an entirely new code base.

sure would be nice to see some progress. this app is one of those things that you just dont realize how important it is until its gone. ive been noticing some exceptions in logcat i can post if needed, im on a galaxy nexus running 4.2. it still works but seems to be hobbling along on recent versions of android. im willing to help in any way, i can also poke at code if theres a git or a repo somewhere or test prerelease versions. if development on this is stuck opensource it and help the community, dont let it code rot. screeble is a hell of a better concept (and probably better on battery) than the samsung camera thing watching your eyes to see if youre looking at your phone.

Hey everyone.

I'm well aware that the last update to Screebl Beta was Dec. 17, 2012.

Given that this is a ground-up re-write of the product, and that the Android landscape is SIGNIFICANTLY more complex these days than when Screebl debuted, I'm taking my time in trying to get the next generation of the product released.

It's going to be a bit tricky migrating all existing Screebl customers over to a completely new code base, but I hope to do that in the next few months.  Beta is fairly stable right now, but seems to still be having some arguments with the very latest versions of Android and the extremely aggressive process management that comes with them.

Here's what remains to be done:

0. Squish as many remaining compatibility problems as I can.  These generally are centered on the Screebl background service being silently killed by the O/S.  I'm responding to user reports of these issues now.
1. Re-write Locale and Tasker plugins.  I'll need to do this in a backwards-compatible way, and this is where I'm focusing my efforts right now.
2. Add inactivity timeout.  Many users are screaming for this in the beta.  I've been hesitant to add it again, because quite frankly it doesn't work very well.  There seem to be a few use cases that demand it, so I'll probably add it back in.
3. Add ability to upgrade Lite to Pro via in-app purchase.
4. Get localization re-done for the many locales that Screebl currently includes.

Thanks for your support and patience!
