Wow, that is amazing.  I think I have got the deep breathing thing to work twice now...but not sure as the ss was at that stage when I was still trying to work out if it was ss or where I'd looked at a bright light, but had been trying to work it out for long enough for me to try the deep breathing.  But my ss at the moment are thankfully quite rare at the moment.

After figuring that I could stop some SSs by deep breathing I decided to try to get to the bottom of what could be triggering them.
I usually wash my hair in the bath with shampoo. This likely means that some of the hundreds of chemicals in shampoo (and manufacturing impurities within them) are absorbed through the skin, so I stopped using shampoo.
Not had an aura since!!! Except... when through force of habit I inadvertently used shampoo again! Next day I had two SSs and another a few days later. I then stopped again and haven't had any more for about a month now.
Note that I was having SSs almost weekly and sometimes two in a day. My guess is that I have become sensitised to some chemical/s in shampoo, maybe you have too. I was also getting SSs abroad while using a different shampoo so maybe it's a common ingredient.
If you have any similar success, please post it here for the benefit of others.

What are you using for a shampoo alternative?
