There is a cure. I talked to my longtime friend and a martial arts
instructor after 5 years of suffering. He told me cut out your GLUTEN.
All gravy, cereals, wheat and it will go away and I just laughed at
him. I had such bad attacks that I would cry and lost 3 jobs over it.

He said you watch, it WILL work you don't get it. He suffered from it
for years. I had one SS attack a month. To the day almost. Since I was
desperate I cut out all the gluten from my diet. I'm still sitting
here 3 months later waiting for an attack! I'm so happy about it that
I want everyone else to try this and doubt me because it works. No
bread cereal or pasta is worth not going blind then headaches for
hours. It was awful dealing with that shimmery blindness and Id cry
because I thought I was dying! No one should suffer this way! Read
your labels and get rid of the gluten! It's worth it.

Wow, it's obvious you're very excited about this. And remarkable that
I see this just as I'm working on "gluten detox" myself. I haven't
gotten it to zero yet--been gradually reducing for about three and a
half months, and now I'm down to the equivalent of about 3 bagels a
day. DOWN to THREE BAGELS a day! That I couldn't cut it out quickly
just goes to show IMO there's a real problem with it. Haven't seen any
miracles yet, but of course I'm not clean yet.

Now here's a thought for you: In my first post last night, introducing
myself, I said I had three SSs in the last week--out of just eight,
ever. Why would I be getting those as I'm *cutting down* on gluten?
Maybe withdrawal from gluten also is a trigger? It'll be interesting
to see.

I'm very glad to hear your symptoms reduced or gone, but it is unscientific and irresponsible to claim a cure based on your experience. It may be a factor, but it may be coincidence. Without real clinical double-blind (i.e. scientific) studies, you can not make a legitimate medical claim to a "cure" for a real physical phenomena. Again, I'm happy if your experience is good, and there are probably other benefits to cutting out wheat from your diet.

I agree with the last writer. Having been on this 'list' for many, many years now I have frequently heard claims of 'cures'.  Usually another email will follow in days, weeks, or months noting that it wasn't actually cured - and the story goes on.  As we all know, SS comes and goes, and for reasons that most of us are unable to identify.  One month it's one thing, the next it's something else.  Actually I can now say that I have not had an episode of SS for a year (the longest I have ever gone!).  Not since I had cataract surgery.  It's quite nice to not have SS - but I doubt that it is gone permanently, but then, time will tell.

Be thankful if it's gone for whatever period of time, but don't be surprised if it pops up again at some later date.
