I feel a need to share this for some reason...

I had just sat down to work from a long relaxing weekend. Went running
yesterday and rode my bike 10 miles to work this morning. I had a nice
warm shower 15 minutes before the first symptom.
I had trouble reading my email so I took a break to make some coffee.
Sure enough, the “reading problem” turned into a full SS with
fortifications. It was on the left side this time which is unusual for
me. The Scotoma didn’t seem dark. I just wasn’t perceiving useful
visual information behind the CSD wave and some items seemed reversed.
It was creepy looking into a mirror and only being able to perceive
one half of my face.

Looking at faces during an SS has some really strange effects. While I
sipped coffee, a senior executive stopped to chat with me. His facial
features were broken up, floating in space, two dimensional and the
parts would swap directions and sizes constantly. Imagine casually
chatting with a live Picasso portrait. Even banal conversation is hard
to fake with that going on.

It took some planning to get back to my desk without rubbing up
against the wall. I’m much more used to this happening on my right
side so I was quite disoriented. Finally the CSD wave moved out of my
peripheral range and I was able to get my mind back to my
correspondence and other work matters. I don't think my coworkers
bought my act of normalcy. I'm not sure how I can explain this.

I can’t blame lack of sleep, stress, caffeine or even glutamate on
this one. This is the third one in two months that seems to be brought
on by a warm shower after moderate exercise. Maybe I should give up on
showering!

Google search is awsome.

This seems to explain what was happening to me during last Tuesday's
"event". I recall some freaky effects like this while trying to see
myself in the mirror. It was like my mind was trying to erase the
image of my own face. Probably a protection mechanism since the visual
"data" of a familiar object was too distorted. Interesting but more
than a little scary.

I rode my bike in again today, but no aura. Thankfully.

When I am having one, I feel handicapped. I would hate to be a surgeon
doing microsurgery, and have to deal with a ss. The ss is so
distracting, I doubt my own ability to do anything at the time. It
reminds me of LSD. It's wise to just ride/sit them out, and not try to
be Hercules.
