I think the fact that you craved meat so much not too long before your episode is a big clue. Perhaps you are lacking in something. Have you been to the doctor and had your levels checked such as cholesterol, vitamins, folic acid, etc. You could be lacking in something that's causing this. Maybe folic or one of the B vitamins.

Hi,

Glad to have found you all.

I've been having classic SS attacks for 20 years now. I learned fairly early on that these were a benign occurrence which helped greatly with the stress and fear of the early attacks.

I've never been able to make a good correlation between attacks and triggers. For me it seems unrelated to foods, stress, noise, lights. They have happened in all conditions.

Recently however I became aware of the prodrome that can precede SS.

From this website:

http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/ocular-migraine.htm

"About 60 percent of migraine sufferers also experience a "prodrome" that occurs days or weeks before the migraine attack. Symptoms of a migraine prodrome can be subtle and may include changes in mood, cravings for certain foods, or a general feeling of being tired."

I realized this happens to me. In fact last weekend I became suddenly and inexplicably teary for a few hours, had a tremendous craving for meat (I'm a vegetarian) and generally felt irritable for no good reason.

On Monday, I had the longest, most spectacular occular lightshow I've ever experienced. I can normally attempt to continue reading at working if it's really important to do so although its laborious during an attack, but this one stopped me in my tracks for 30 minutes.

Has anyone else notice this prodrome phenomena?

Barb
