What is a FAQ?

It is the acronym for Frequently Asked Questions.

By far, the Top FAQ of the sci.stat.math group is not,
believe it or not, "How many Luis A. Afonsos are there posting
statistical nonsense", but questions in this FAQ. :)

Sept1> I would like it very much if you would send the solutions
Sept1> manual to me.

Sept2> I'd appreciate if anyone could send me the solution manual
Sept2> of Statistical Inference book by Casella & Berger.

Sept7> Can anyone send me an e-copy of solutions manual to
Sept7> statistical inference by Casella & Berger?

and this sort of enquiry has been ongoing regularly ever since I
started reading this newsgroup in early 2005.

Therefore, I think it's about time that SOMEONE should compile
some answers to the FAQs.

QUESTION. Can anyone send me ...

A1. Yes. Casella & Berger or their publisher (probably) can.

A2. Dr. Doofus can.

Dr. Doofus wrote (Nov 23, 2005)
> Dear future statitsicians!

> Dr. Doofus is pleased to announce that he just inherited the complete
> set of solutions in MP3 PDF (www) from the Nigebrian Chambers of
> Commerce, with the help of a very influential wealthy representative.

> If you would kindly agree to be a designated beneficiary, Dr. Doofus
> will personally morse-code, text, blog, or ipod the solutions to you
> absolutely for FREE!

> With warm academic regards,
> Dr.Doofus

RF> I shall reciprocate your warm academic regard with a warmed-over
RF> turkey, after I stuffed the book and complete solution into its
RF> posterior orifice.
RF> -- Dr. Reef Fish Bob.

A3. JABONAYAN can.

JA> I have the complete solution set. I can send them to anyone
JA> who is interested on request.

A4. Nick can.

Nick> I have the casella berger solutinos manual in pdf format
Nick> which i am selling for $15.
nick <nick_in...@yahoo.com> says send $15 to
code_h...@yahoo.com

A5. Erase Ego not only can, but DID:

A6. Reef Fish CAN'T:

RF> I had only seen a couple of the problems posed in their book.
RF> I thought they were TERRIBLY stated. and ambiguously impractical.
RF> No wonder that's the only book students are always scrambling
RF> for "solutions", in this newsgroup, ever since I started reading
RF> here over a year ago.

RF> BURN the BOOK. Learn your statistics from other books.
RF> Perhaps then, you'll find the solutions to the exercises in Casella

RF> and Berger's book a trivial exercise once the subject is
understood.

QUESTION. Do you have the solution to problem 1.42 in the book?

A. The Solution Manual does not have 1.42 in the set of solutions.
55 Exercises in Chapter 1. 51 Answers. Missing 26, 30, 36, 42.

QUESTION. Can anyone give the solutions to 1.18 and 1.20?

A. Dr. Reef Fish Bob can.

RF> as I stated in my solution to their problems 1.18 and 1.20, I
could
RF> easily find a solution manual and trade (or provide my completely
RF> set of solutions of ZEROs) for just one kilo of baby green morays.

Because of the poorly and ambiguously stated problems, I argued that
the solution to both were ZERO, though the pedantic answers can be
found in the Solution Manual. I commented on Oct 25, 2005 to Dr.
Doofus:

RF> My curiosity was aroused partly because of the name "Dr. Doo.."
RF> I saw (thinking it was some Dr. Doodoo), and I had just finished
RF> demolishing the "crazy old lunatic" Luis A. Afonso, on his
RF> accusation that I erred in my solution to a Casella & Berger
RF> problem, when I was writing a satirical piece about how POORLY
RF> and ambiguously those two author had stated their intended
problems

and I complimented Dr. Doofus,

RF> Your post did not disappoint me!

RF> It was one of the best I have read in this thread, heavily
RF> populated by the bottom-dwelling slimes in academia.

Unfortunately, except for what I quoted from Dr. Doofus, he seemed to
have had his posts removed by Google.

There you have it -- the one and only compiled FAQ about
Casella & Berger's Solution Manual.

The next time I see the questions asked in this FAQ in sci.stat.math,
I'll post this FAQ. Perhaps in time, the questions will disappear.

The subject inexplicably been truncated to "Q". This is just an
erratum on the SUBJECT.
