Hello Everyone,

Please take just two minutes to read this letter, which
would result in a good outcome for our world. I'd like to
tell you in brief about the Arabic encyclopedia "Dahsha",
its goals, and how you can support a project which could
benefit Arabs and Non-Arabs as well, and which I think
will have a very positive impact in many aspects.

People usually engage in well-trodden charitable paths
like alms giving, orphanages, religious institutions. etc.
But Arabs are in desperate need of science, reason, and
rational thinking, in order to extinguish ignorance,
extremism and superstition. Such projects have a greater
and deeper influence on societies.

The Arabic content on the web forms not more than 1% of
the web's overall content. For the Arab world consists
mostly of developing countries. Such undeveloped cultural
state of the Arab world is causing negative consequences
affecting everyone's life, whether directly or indirectly.

So, in 2007 I launched Dahsha; an interactive Encyclopedia
of articles and e-books. It aims to help increase Arabic
content, and open the door for intellectuals and thinkers
to enrich the Arabic web. So Dahsha was greatly welcomed
among Arabs. It had won the admiration of many, and a lot
was written about it, as it became very famous. But all
that came at the expense of my health and financial status.

Dahsha had many problems. I paid thousands of dollars,
only to get a primitive script, which I've been suffering
from Since 2007. During those years, I created the second
Dahsha, using the Vbulletin script. That was another
mistake! For Vbulletin is a forum's script, not suitable
for encyclopedias. But I had to use it because of its
flexibility and many features. I didn’t have enough money
to buy a descent coding. So I stopped caring for Dahsha
for two years, which led it to lose its ranking.

I have never sought any fundraising for Dahsha. But now
I regret that. For I believe it is a necessity, and a
promising project. If it gets financial support it can
influence the way many users view the world. We can direct
it so as to create a new public trend of moderation and
open-mindedness. Especially because of the absence of
competitors. For until this day, there is only two online
Arabic encyclopedias! Which is a real cultural disaster.
I was anticipating - during the past 6 years - that there
must appear a big, well-funded Arabic encyclopedia which
will fulfill ambitions. But surprisingly, it didn't happen!
This has enhanced my motivation to raise funds for Dahsha.

What are the needs of Dahsha?

- For the first stages of its development, Dahsha requires
around 65000 dollars. This amount should cover a good part
of the following expenses:
1 - The expense of merging the first Dahsha with the second,
and converting the two databases into a single database
which uses an advanced, professional platform.
2- Adding an Arabic/Arabic and Arabic/English dictionaries,
and a video encyclopedia.
3 - The fees of an essential upgrade of the hosting package
in order to get rid of slowness and server downtime. A large
space is needed in order to upload all books and files to
Dahsha's server, instead of using free file sharing sites.
4 - The wages of a small staff of few Editors and typists,
a programmer and a web designer.
5 - Many other expenses such as office rent, computers,
intranet, maintenance and other bills.

By donating to Dahsha you will help accomplish the dream
of many. But most importantly, you will contribute to
forming a moderate and enlightened Arab and Muslim world.

We welcome your donations, whether monetary or in-kind.
Any amount donated will undoubtedly be useful and
appreciated.
Another way to help is by contacting others who are
interested in supporting such projects, and informing
them of the details of our mission.
You can also support us by putting the following link on
a visible place on your website or Facebook:

Thank you so much for giving us some of your time.
I look forward to your action.
Best Regards

More about Dahsha:

The meaning of the word "Dahsha":
Dahsha is an Arabic word which means any of the following:
Wonder - Astonishment - Amazement - Marvel.
Once, Plato said: "this wondering; this is where philosophy
begins and nowhere else." Tht 155d.
Thus, the fact that philosophy and seeking knowledge in
general are primarily motivated by wonder inspired the
choosing of the word "Dahsha" as the name of this
encyclopedia. As someone who has a major in Philosophy,
this wondering and marveling was a dominant feeling in my
life. Therefore,I was happy to use the word Dahsha, and was
in fact surprised that that word - as a domain name - was
not taken by someone else! Despite that it is an important
and short word, and is pronounced as spelled. While most of
the less attractive famous words were already taken.
