Speaking of Marvin from previous thread:

Dragon is getting close to its 1st test mission to ISS.

If it can complete its mission w/o destroying the ISS in the process, I
propose we petition SpaceX to name this one or at least of its successor
Dragon capsules the "Patrick C. Flannery".

If the Dragon collides and seriously damages the ISS (but doesn't actually
kill anyone) I propose we DOUBLE our efforts to get either that one or a
successor named the "Patrick C. Flannery".

It's what he would have wanted...

Count on my vote. I suggest a new one, not an already-flown one. Maybe
Dragon 3?

FWIW (which ain't much) I sent the suggestion to someone at SpaceX
with whom I've exchanged email in the past.

...Kids, if there's anything I can do to help on this, you know I"m
there. Hell, even if it's a non-docking test flight, Pat would have
been pickled tink over the honor, even moreso than if we'd just
managed to get his ashes sent up stuck in a block of cheap cheese. Has
anyone contacted Henry to see if he can contact who he knows and see
what strings he can pull? Might do good for all of us to spread the
word outside of ss*, as a lot of our old hands have moved on/been
chased off to other forums. Hell, I'd even go so far as to see if the
egotistical choads over at NSF - you know, "Charlie X. Murphy" and his
ilk - would set up a thread to discuss getting the word out and trying
to build up a groundswell movement to at least give the idea a
fighting chance. I'd almost say contact Dwayne, but considering the
rumors that he was "jumping for joy" that Pat had passed on and that I
almost did the same, I wouldn't trust that route.

Do what you can. As for Dwayne (O.Day?), I doubt anyone would wish Pat
any ill.

I'm going to miss Pat so much.

OM please do what you can.

I haven't mentioned this to Henry yet. But I'll email him and see what he
thinks of it.

Perfect! Pat would love it.

Here is Henry's take on the idea:

Sorry for slow response -- your mail came when I was out of town.

No problem, feel free. And no need to remove the address(es) -- they're
public knowledge.

My basic take on it is that it would be really neat to do it, but I'm not
sure we can swing it. For all that we were fond of Pat, there are
probably a hundred or a thousand other people whose names would come to
SpaceX's collective mind first... especially since a lot of its management
is ex-NASA types. What we need for this is a company run by people from
the space-enthusiast community, who'd be receptive to the idea of a
memorial for a departed enthusiast. Even so, there'd be others in line
ahead of Pat, e.g. G. Harry Stine.

Obviously there's no chance of getting Pat's name on one of the early
high-profile Dragons. Later on, when things are more routine, it's not
inconceivable, but I think it absolutely depends on having a contact or
two within SpaceX who'd be willing to propose it. Barring the remote
possibility that they eventually throw naming open to public nominations
in just the right way, it's got to have an internal champion. Outside
support might be helpful, but I fear an unsolicited proposal from outside
on behalf of a name they don't recognize will go in the "cranks" file
unless it's got internal backing, no matter how many signatures it has on
it (unless one of them is, say, Barack Obama or Charlie Bolden).

Alas, I don't think I can help in that department. I've got contacts in
some of the alt-space companies, but not SpaceX.
