For those who haven't read it, here's the teaser -- meant only as an
enticement to read, i.e., don't judge the book by this summary alone.
[That would fail to take into account the entirety of the evidence - a
scientific no-no. Right?]
As head of the Foreign Technology section of the Army, Corso claims to
have used his office as examiner of foreign -- i.e., German technology --
as the perfect cover for a deeper agenda: analyzing Roswell
debris/technology (foreign = alien in this case), which he "harvested" and
covertly seeded to scientists working at major defense contractors. Night
vision, lasers, fiber optics, and other technological developments were
boosted by the "reverse engineering" he encouraged and funded. NBC's
Dateline did a segment on Corso a few weeks ago but was typically
superficial and did not lay a glove on him. Now in his 80s, it's doubtful
he wrote the book for the fame and fortune that may tempt younger hoaxers.
Now, will the bright lights in this skeptics group please respond to those
parts of Corso's book that are clearly not filler.
By the way, I agree that not every chapter is filled with lurid tales of
alien sexual abuse and that I longed for a bit of the sexy stuff as his
technology-by-technology narrative churned on -- but, damn it, the guy
maintains he got his leads from the Roswell files in his possession!
Sure, his descriptions of how he "seeded" industry is fairly pedestrian,
but it is detailed. You know, you can't win with this group: if someone
writes an over-the-top book, he's a kook. If it's like Corso's, he gets
chided for all the dull "filler." Just address the substance, please.
it is reprinted below................
The Day After Roswell - by Colonel Philip Corso and William Birnes
OB1 7-1-97: Well I read the book and I want to believe it ... BUT it has
some MAJOR problems all of which I won't reveal just now. There are a
number of interesting possibly INTENTIONAL false statements. For what
purpose ? ... plausible deniability ? .... the ability
to slow this baby down if it gets a little out of hand ? ... maybe ....
But let me give you just one BIGGIE ... Col. Corso states early on in
his book that the United States was frustrated in its attempts at
catching the Soviet Union's first artificial satellite ... "Sputnik".
He stated that both the Navy's "WAC Corporal" and the Army's
"Redstone" had suffered many failures and our prestige was at stake
leading into 1958.
Specifically on page 104 - "Early failures to lift off the navy's WAC
Corporal and the Army Redstone had made laughingstocks out of the
American rocket program ..."
Now I should point out that this is very much akin to saying the
Pilgrims arrived on the Nina, the Pinta, and the Enterprise. I mean the
early history of both the successes and failures of the United State's
early satellite program are well documented in even good encyclopedias.
First the Navy's satellite program and failures... were centered around
the Vanguard missile. The WAC Corporal on the other hand was in fact an
Army missile project. The maligned by Corso, Redstone rocket in fact
has never failed and launched its payload the "Explorer" on
its first attempt ! He just didn't get any of this basic history
correct.
Just wanted to share that with everyone ..... now go read the book .....
its interesting and may be in large part true .... but why he or they
made the above statement is quite interesting ..huh? I guess I better
keep looking into this thingee... it gets more bizarre by the day.
OB1 7-2-97: Ohhhh .... and what about the reference to the Lockheed B-2
Stealth Bomber ...... umm ya mean maybe the Northrop B-2 .... now what
disturbs me is .. this stuff is too easy to look up on the net .. for
gunnis sake !!! ...........
OB1 7-3-97: ... and ummm what's this about making plans in 1961 for he
and General Trudeau to visit the famous mathematician John Von Neumann
.... John Von Newman was dead at the time ... died in 1957 ... easy ta
lookup ..... wouldn't a been much of a meeting ...
OB1 7-4-97: ... and ummmm page 32 and 78
.... is it 4 fingers or 6 fingers for these aliens ?
OB1 7-11-97: .... page 36 mentions Soviet "Backfire Bombers" in 1957
... and it wasn't until
1970, that NATO intelligence uncovered a
new Soviet long-range bomber that flew
at twice the speed of sound. This nuclear
"backfire bomber" could reach targets
deep in the heartland of America.
OOB1 would like to thank Ragnar for this one
