I am seeking text references regarding what elements seem to be commonly
present in psychotherapy sessions, wherein the therapy sessions are
considered effective, from both the client's and therapist's perspective.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dear David:

Based upon my expereince, I believe that some of the most important
elements in a therapeutic relationship are safety, confidentiality,
trust, and empathetic listening.

A couple of texts that you may want to check out are as follows:

Kahn, Michael, " Between Therapist and Client," W.H. Freeman and
Company, New York, 1991.

Kottler, Jeffrey A., " On Being a Therapist," Jossey-Bass Publications,
San Francisco, 1986.

Zaro, Barach, Nedelman and Dreiblatt, " A Guide for Beginning Psycho-
therapists," 1991.

My best wishes on your adventure,

...Joe
