A better measure of whether or not
folks feel pressure to "avoid saying Merry Christmas",
is to count the number of Christmas cards
that one receives from businesses,
that say "Holiday greetings", "Happy holidays", etc.
and those that say "Merry Christmas",
as businesses are very sensitive to political,
racial and religious pressures.
When I was in business,
my "Christmas cards" generally said "Happy holidays".
I had one of the first computer stores in the late 70's
and one of the cards I sent out said:
For a = 65 to 90
if a <> 76 print chr$(a),
next a
I got a lot of phone calls about that.
