What else could explain the collapse of the towers? The NIST report
certainly didn't find any physical evidence
to support their model when examining the structural steel.
Furthermore, they did not even attempt to explain
the mechanism of "global collapse" which they claim was a result of
the initial structural failure which they failed
to explain. They make some vague comments suggestive of the "pancake
model".

You are totally inconsistent in what you are saying. First of all, you
were talking about all three WTC buildings including the towers, and
now you are only talking about WTC7, in which the progressive collapse
of each floor was definitely *not* seen. I have no idea where the
structural failure occured in that case (and neither do you), but it
would seem to have been somewhere near the base of the building. You

Doesn't matter. The videos show clearly that WTC 1 and 2 did not fall
at freefall rate. Look at the debris expelled sideways. It falls
down faster than the towers themselves. The debris falls at freefall,
the towers fall slower.
Also the destruction zone doesn't accelerate as it progresses downward.
If it were freefall the destruction would accelerate faster and faster.
It doesn't.
As to WTC7, with no video of the south side, we don't know exactly what
happened. We know only this much: The east penthouse goes first, so
the center (and likely the southern) part of the east end goes first.
Then the western penthouse goes, meaning the center part (and maybe
southern part) of the west end goes. Then whatever is left (the complete
north wall, and probably not much else) goes.
