In a sense, the electron IS a vortex.
It is a planar spiral of minute
points of fusion/radiation that stretches
from nucleus to atom's edge among
others making up a disc that both
spins and precesses. The spinning and
precession constantly moves the electron
material around the atom's axis in a kind
