………Gamov and cronies had brought already enough anthropodicity and
anthropics into the cosmo story bizz with their “Let there be light theory”
, so much in fact, that subsequent developments were shunned by the
establishment. Right or wrong, who knows. After all, any cosmology story
will remain a story, because we base all of it on inferences and deductions
from observations and measurements of feeble flickers from lights in the
night sky.

Anyway, the advent and the increasing influence of liberals,
flower-children and green shits in the late 60’s fostered a trend to update
the “Let there be light – Big Bang” theory. Amongst these were constructs
containing the Anthropic Principle, by Robert Dicke in 1961, which amounts
to the statement that the universe is in the way it is because we are here
to observe it. Had the universe been different in its structure and
evolution, humans would not have evolved.

It is easy to see why an AP containing cosmo tale is a heavy duty stroking
affair for mankind’s collective vanity and to many it’s pure balsam for
their soul. Putting man’s ego at center stage, as preferred frame of
reference, would have sold well.

During this period of cosmic tale development a number of very interesting
cosmo scripts were nipped in the bud, amongst which was the cosmology of
Self-similarity with fractals and chaos math as a base. But these efforts
died on the vine. It may have given us a beautiful story, which when
properly sold and promoted like Gamov’s gig, would have been fascinating to
read.

I can’t find the reference, (perhaps it was in connection with a discussion
with Thomas Gold), where a comment was made that since the 1970 anthropic
cosmology was so shunned in academia that a professor who mentioned the
word “anthropic”, even when he totally spoke out against it, was still
treated like a priest who rails against pedophilia, but still is suspected
that he may harbor secret desires for it, just for bringing up the theme.
Whether this is true, I don’t know. I wasn’t there.

The human reflex to the AP is very deeply rooted. I.e. it is interesting to
note how every time when real pain hits an individual, the anthropic
principle begins to loom larger in the mind and does gain in inner
importance. It happened to me when the parachute didn’t open properly. It
was a great fall&trip, but I don’t wish a repeat thereof, nor do I wish it
onto anybody else. Same condition of anthropic rapture occurs when one
experiences the pain of oxalate or phosphate rock passages.
Which kind did you have? Has it left your organic residence yet?

Take care, Dirk.
