CRACKPOT WITCH HUNT

You guys are wasting too many ergs and bits on this Crack Pot index rather
than discussing the great issues of physics. You are like Dan Qualye
talking about "family values" and "the cultural elite" rather than how
to eliminate the deficit and create jobs.

Many of you are not deep enough into physics to even distinguish between
crackpot discussion and genuine fundamental investigations e.g. the
blanket remark that "faster than light" is crackpot in all contexts.
Therefore, the obsession with the crackpot index is just one more
attempt by novices and the mediocre to constrain the bolder spirits
among us. Yes, there may be some crackpots but it is best to tolerate
them - Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone!

(John Baez's excuse was it's Sunday, mine is that I had a glass of port
