I've always loved his books. I think his Basis Physics text is what you're
refering to and I used to have a copy of it. I was a very fine text indeed
as well as his GR text and his new second edition of his special relativity
text, both of which are fine texts, in my humble opinion of course.

Hey, I used that book. Yes, I thought it was very good. I chose it
because Harvard was using it. Ohanian actually gave me a copy of the
instructor's manual with all the answers. (I had read his book from
cover to cover and made a note of the typos for him.)
Which book? I lost my "Basic Physics" text of his when I moved. However I
still have his GR book. I caught a ton of errors in the book and e-mailed
them to Ohanian. He was very happy to get all those errors. Free proof
reading is always a nice thing. He's a great guy. He sent me an autographed
edition of his SR book for free. I then sent him more errors. Some were
problems in the nature of the question/answer given and some were typos.
Here is a web page I made to illustrate the problem with a question he posed
for the reader.

I didn't use it as a student, but I tutored students in courses using the
book. I liked it as a tutor - the index was very good. As far as basic
physics textbooks go, Ohanian is good, better than some others. Keeping in
mind that there are a plethora of such textbooks, and most are of
reasonable quality, I don't know if I'd plug Ohanian over the competitors,
but it was OK, even good.
