The Department of Mathematics at the University of California,
Riverside is seeking qualified students interested in a graduate
degree - especially in the subject of "quantum mathematics".
"Quantum mathematics" is shorthand for math that arises from work
on quantum mechanics, quantum field theory, quantum gravity and
string theory. This work connects traditionally distinct branches
of mathematics in new and interesting ways. Areas within quantum
mathematics include quantum groups, affine Lie algebras, vertex
operator algebras, higher categories, quantum invariants of knots
and manifolds, and the relation between number theory and quantum
mechanics. Some knowledge of physics is a plus for students working
in these areas.

Marta Asaeda - operator algebras and low-dimensional topology
John Baez - mathematical physics, especially quantum gravity and n-categories
Vyjayanthi Chari - Lie theory, especially affine Lie algebras and
quantum groups
Jacob Greenstein - representation theory, especially affine Lie algebras
and quantum groups
Michel Lapidus - fractals, especially their relation to number theory
via zeta functions
Xiao-Song Lin - topology, especially quantum invariants of knots and
3-manifolds
Feng Xu - operator algebras, especially vertex operator algebras
