The dust cloud the planets (and the sun) have fromed from was (or
somehow
became) more or less a flat disk.
The aggregrations thereof (the sun, planets, moons, smaller bodies)
are
necessarily more or less spherical, esp. if they are big enough.

1) Multiple solar satellites simultaneously looking from different
angular positions - including polar orbit missions.

The sun is a flat plasma screen. The planets are alien service
vehicles that periodically go behind it to check out the cable
connections (What? Did you think the sun had a satellite dish?) and to
feed the hamsters which recharge the neutronium batteries.
Seriously, the vast array of things orbiting the sun all interact with
each other, and all objects and their interactions are subject to
conservation of angular momentum. As they interact their angular
momenta around the sun tend to average out. Objects with angular
momenta tensors oblique to one another will tend to interact more
often than objects whose AM tensors are nearly aligned. As a result
objects orbiting a star will, in fairly short order (a few thousand to
a few million orbits), tend to collect in a single planar disk wherein
their AM tensors are nearly parallel.
The averaging of angular momentum through non-collision interactions
explains almost all planetary and galactic disks.

Don't you know that the sun rotates at the same speed as the earth
goes around it? We always see the same side just like the moon! God
arranged it that way just so we'd never guess the Sun was flat (like a
hollywood set). What do you suppose Shakespear meant when he said "all
the world's a stage"? And I'm not even going to get into the
"alternate Earth" that orbits directly 180 degrees from Earth in the
same orbit. We never get to see it because the "flat sun" is always
blocking it!

Any big sparse sphere of dust with nonzero angular momentum, when
allowed to contract (e.g. under gravity), will become a nearly flat disk
as it much more easily shrinks along the spin axis (no centrifugal
effects) than in the plane of rotation (due to centrifugal effects).
As for why it had nonzero angular momentum, the probability of a
specific angular momentum vector, including the zero vector, is zero so
you "almost certainly" get something else given a random clump of space
molecules. C.f. "why does everything spin?" posted a week or two ago.
