Over the years I have tried (pretended to myself?) not have an ego.

I tried to be kind to others. I ignored their slants, misdeeds and
injustices towards me. I had no ego after all.

However, NOW I am FULL of anger, resentment and bitterness towards these
people (even though some of these slants took place decades ago).

1) Does this mean that I had an ego after all?

2) Does this mean that trying to "negate" ones ego is bad/impossible?

Fundamentally, is EGO necessary for normal mental health?

Hello chocawok.

Whether you have an ego or not, you may be justified in being angry at
people who mistreated you years ago.

Maybe it's not your supposed ego that you have been suppressing but
your anger. Don't dismiss your anger. Feel it, be it, explore it.

I would guess that anger has an evolutionary advantage of some kind
and possibly aided survival.

Just don't take your anger out on people who did not provoke it. Keep
it focused on those who provoked it. Otherwise, you're just spreading
to others resentment and bitterness.

I suspect that anger directed at someone who behaved unfairly is a strong
incentive for that person to behave in a socially acceptable fashion - and
thus a necessary support for moral and social behaviour.

Still, it is worth reflecting on how many people are undone by anger!

Hi, egotists and non-egotists

Your "self" (mind) is like a circular fort with an entrance at the
east. It has four functions round the circle: Governance in the N,
competition in the E, utility in the S and altruism in the W. It is
split diagonally from NW to SE – the top right half is your "male"
side and the bottom left half is your "female" side. Your male side
is there to go out and deal with the environment to get the resources
you need and drag them back to you (your den). Your female side is
there to utilise them and nurture you. As you can see, the caveman
hypothesis is really the cave inside your mind. Your male side is
objective (outside the den of self) and your female side is subjective
(inside the self, with feelings).

Your male side once needed governance and competition to govern and
compete in the environment against the brutality of nature – kill or
be killed. Governance is what you call "ego". It is your autonomy.
You may relinquish the seat to God and let Him take the
responsibility, as pastor Frank said.

Then we grew in number and our dens became societies. Society's male
side still governs (N) and competes on the right wing. Society's
female side still utilises (S) and nurtures on the left wing. These
things define our politics and economics. Inside the den of society
and civilisation, non-brutality applies and civil law ensures it.

Your ego was given to you to dominate your resources. You should use
it to govern well inside your own den and that of society. You should
use it only with your competitive side E (right) to apply competition
(aggression) in getting resources outside the den of civilisation. It
was not given to you to use against the other residents of the den in
hatred. That they should hate you and thus misuse their own egos is
their problem, not yours. If they get physical, then they choose by
their actions to act like "outdoor" nature and you may then take up
arms in self-defence, defending your own personal den.

If outside nature and resources are male, the den of civilisation is
female inside. You should therefore treat the residents with
non-brutality (the opposite of outside nature), and treat them with
utility S and altruism W, the female side of your self. It defines
civilised behaviour.

The male side has never needed goverance. Since our only real
for existence is to infiltrate and destoy communist
governments, and replace them with North Pole autocracies.

Den's did not become societies. Metropolitan slums
became society.

And den's became U-Haul franchises to the
non-taxed-to-death Florida shark burbs.
