I know of no comprehensive treatment of lightpipe design in a book.
There is a small bit of information in the Field Guide to Illumination
published by the SPIE. There are also a few pages in the "Introduction
to Non Imaging Optics" by Chaves that have a a few pages on light pipe
design although they are geared towards concentrator applications.

The best design references I have come across are a couple of these
papers written by Dr. John Koshel and others -
