help! i need to explain what science is in simple terms.
this is to help me with a science project at college.

I guess this is a joke, but here's a serious answer.

There is a short definition and a long definition.

Short: Science is a trade, like plumbing, baker, butcher, hit man (er, hit
person).

For the long definition, find a copy of Henry H. Bauer "Scientific Literacy
and the Myth of the Scientific Method". If you don't do this, then it was not
a serious question.

Short answer: knowledge of how the universe works. (The root word means
"to know.")

Check a dictionary or encyclopedia to get other perspectives on the question.
