In my Miami not having a pistol in a public place will get you shot dead.
No license is needed for handguns or even assault rifles.
The laws for guns down here have gone back to the 'old' days.
"Florida is a "shall issue" state, and issues concealed carry permits to
both residents and non-residents.Vehicle carry without a permit is
allowed either in a snapped holster in plain view, or when the firearm
is concealed if the firearm is "securely encased". "Securely encased"
means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in
a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case;
or in a closed box or container..."
'Currently, Florida's Concealed Weapon License is one of the most
widely-recognized, state-issued concealed weapon permit..recognized
in thirty-five different states.."

About the only thing against the law is trying to stop someone
from carrying a gun almost anywhere they like. Of course not in
places like nuclear power plants or schools. We're not totally
uncivilized.
And the new Florida self-defense law is even better. Concerning
illegal entry to one's home or car....
"In such instances they need not retreat before using deadly force,
they need not warn the intruder of their intent to shoot, and there
is an absolute presumption that the person attempting the entry
was doing so with the intent to commit a violent act (i.e. "forcible
felony"), and that the defender is presumed to be acting in reasonable
fear of death or great bodily harm to himself or herself. In other words
- no arrest or prosecution is technically "legal" if someone without a right
of entry or ownership is trying to break in, and you shoot them."
Yee ha!
